Hi, I am British, married to Canadian sponsor and for reasons concerning waiting for various proofs, etc to apply, our application will only be sent in the next few weeks. My medical exam was done here in the UK on 6 Jan 2016. So, with roughly a years waiting for our application to go through sponsor, then applicant approval -looks like I'll be needing a new one.

Does anyone know if there is a way around this? -the exam costs about £350.00. Many thanks,
Miles

no, there's no way around this unless the visa officer decides to extend your medical. i've heard that the medical reassessment only includes an x-ray, so it should cost less than a full upfront medical.

perhaps someone else could confirm?

My spouse's medicals expired and we had to get her to take them again. It essentially cost the same as the first time, unfortunately.

Don't redo the medical unless specifically requested to by IRCC. They often extend medicals, especially if you're not in a risk country.

Also, your app will either go to London, which takes about 8 months, or to Ottawa, which averages about 6 months.

london takes 11-12 months. they sped up considerably during the election and finalized a bunch of apps within 6-8 months, but unfortunately that was a one off thing.

Should I put in a cover letter with my application, or a note with my medical part of the paperwork explaining why there has been a delay in sending and therefore why my medical exam status has expired? Thank you for your help everyone.

Also, would it be better "safe than sorry", to book a new medical exam now, and send the results off soon after my application has been sent, to avoid even further delay in processing?

Milesp - Did your medical not get sent through electronically by the hospital who performed it? I had mine in Manchester and even though I got a copy of the receipt (which I attached to my application) the results were immediately sent through to CIC who then matched my paperwork to my application once I sent it in.

Yes, my results have been sent electronically I beleive -I did get receipt from CIC saying payment was made -but it was still back in Jan 6 2016, so will still be expired by the time London (or Ottawa) works on it.I don't see how this makes any difference to the fact it will have expired? Thanks.

If you take another medical now and they're sent in electronically then your application will have two sets of test results linked to it. Now, I'm not saying it will have any effect on your application but I don't know that it will or not, nobody does, except CIC. They may look at your application, see two sets of results and put it on hold until they correspond with you regarding why you have two sets. Then again they may not. Nobody can really answer your question because none of us know.

It truly seems a waste of money to get your medical done again, now, before your current results have expired (January 2017 right?) so it's probably best to ride out the storm and if CIC request more meds to be done in January 2017 then you can do so, they'll be sent in electronically and matched to your application, you'll send in the receipt, which won't take too long to get there and they can continue processing your application.

You may hit a lucky streak and obtain permanent residence before January 2017, I've seen it happen with people on these forums. If your application is sent to Ottawa it can be processed in 3-4 months providing that everything is straight-forward.

Best of luck whatever you decide.

Thanks Andy, I value your opinion (and my lack of money!) and see your point.gosh this process is long and hard, and so far weathering out the frustrations of it all just about.I think inclusion of an apologetic cover note explaining our delay since medical may be the best option, then hope for the best! many thanks

You can get a medical test done on each day of the year. Only the latest assessment on file will be considered.

You can get as many medical examinations as you like before the last medical exam expires. CIC/IRCC will only consider the most recent one. They will not 'hold' your file just because you got another medical exam done before your last one expired.

You could always wait to hear back from CIC/IRCC. Should your previous medical exam expire, they will most likely recommend another one.

Do you know this for a fact because I've heard differently?
