Hi there,
I am Canadian, living in the UK and sponsoring my partner for us to move back to Canada next year.

We have all the requisite information: we've been together 2.5 years and living together for 2. We have all the forms, I am waiting for my Option C printout to arrive from Canada and then we can send off the whole package.

My partner has had his medical, he took his meds with him, he has RA. We got a call from the clinic on Friday saying they could not send the medical files until they had a letter from his Specialist.

First of all, my partner can't get in to see his specialist until January so that will delay the process and secondly, as this is a family sponsorship I thought the rules around medical conditions were more lax and as long as he had nothing communicable then all would be OK. He manages his RA very well and in fact was in 2 minds whether to declare the meds - as it is he's taken himself off them anyway and has had no flare ups.

I have a sneaking suspicion the clinic doesn't realise this is a family sponsorship and is in fact a primary application. We plan to call them tomorrow - anyone have any insight to add?

Thanks in advance
Jonesy

It just could be the clinic too. Mine said since I have epilepsy they may or may not need to hear from my neurologist. It is true that they are excessive medical exempt so they probably want to hear from his doctor to make sure he's being honest about his status. That he's capable of working and not needing welfare or extensive care. Or that he doesn't have a contagious infection that some RA meds ( at least I see on tv) say that you can be more susceptible to. That's what I gathered when I did mine anyway so that may or may not be the case for every person and every clinic. My panel physician said they were basically checking to see if I needed chronic care to take care of me with frequent hospitalizations and whether I had a contagious disease that would make me a 'draw' on the system.

As long as he was given his receipt, you can send off the complete application with that.

For the Panel Physician, as far as I know, they are not allowed to refuse to send someone's medical and it is up to the CIC doctors that review the medical to determine if more information or tests are needed. I would call the office and tell them that they need to send the medical as is to be reviewed by CIC and wait for a request from the RMO (Regional Medical Office) for any further information.

Thanks both of you -

we will call in the morning but we do have a receipt so will send off the package once I get my form from Canada.

Blueangel were you being sponsored? Did CIC request any further info on your epilepsy?

Canuck in UK that's what I figured.

Yes I am the applicant and my meds were received in the system as of July and so far no further info has been requested.
