Hey, does anyone know the reason the immigration medical isn't covered by standard health insurance? ........or is it?

You mean provincial health insurance? Think about it... you're asking why your province's taxpayers won't pay for your immigration physical... then there's the question of fairness to applicants who don't happen to live in Canada...

It's only fair that taxpayers don't foot the bill considering after about 13 consecutive months, a temporary resident is eligible for provincial health insurance(depending on where you live). Save your receipts though and claim it under medical expenses when you file taxes.

If you have private or employer-sponsored health insurance plan, you may be able to claim some of the expenses.
My BlueCross paid for X-Rays and blood tests for the entire family.

The rest may be claimed on you tax file. If you have to travel more than X km to get examined, then mileage, per diem, and hotel costs are also eligible medical expenses for tax purposes.

As for provincial health plans - jes_ON and SenoritaBella are 100% right.

Hey guys,

Jes_ON - I know what you're saying, but I'm an Ontario resident working and paying taxes so I'm entitled to healthcare. It's just a medical exam.

As for the blood work/x-ray, I'll try and get it claimed back on my employee benefit program.

I know what you mean, too. And if Ontario residents were entitled to an immigration physical, so you would be as well :)

Actually, another reason might be that it is a Federal program, it is not managed or regulated by the province. Ergo, not covered by the province.
