Medical Checks for Family Memebers?

Hi All!

I'm a US citizen appllying for Canadian PR, family class (my Canadian citizen spouse will be sponsoring me).

I'm a little confused about family members, form IMM5406 Additional Family Information, and who needs medical checks.

My understanding is that CIC defines "family members" as my spouse, myself and any dependant children. Form IMM5406 requires me to list all of the above, as well as my parents, brothers and sisters.

I have no children, neither does my spouse. My spouse will be sponsoring me, so he does not need a medical check, correct? How about my parentss, brothers and sisters? Will they all need to submit medical certificates done by a panel physician too?

I have an appointment with a panel phhysician for my own next week. My husband and I will be sending in our PR applications within the next 3 weeks. What will happen if the medical examiner submits my medical certificate before our PR application has been submitted. With the medical examiner provide me with a copy to keep for myself and/or a copy to send in with our appllication? Not totally sure what to expect....

oops, forgot an important detail.... I will be applying for PR for just myself. My spouse will not be applying to sponsor my parentss, brothers, sisters or any other family.

no. the only people who need medical checks are people who are the APPLICANTS to be sponsored. Your husband is the SPONSOR, he does not need to provide a medical. The spouse they refer to for the medical exam is any spouse that is an applicant. So if BOTH you and your husband were being sponsored, you BOTH would need exams. I'm not sure how it works with applicants who have dependants not being sponsored, but since it doens't apply to you, it doesn't matter much for this response.

Your siblings and parents are not applicants and do not need medical exams. They DO belong on the additional family information form, because apparently this is what CIC uses to determine future PR eligibility. If they are not on your form now, they will not be eligible to be sponsored by you in the future.

I did put my husband (sponsor) on the additional family form. I'm not sure if that was correct, i just figured it was best to include him rather than not.

Edit: The doctor is going to give you a receipt called "emedical". This will be the receipt you put in your application. It will have your picture, personal info and barcode for CIC. The doctor will enter the exam information into the system, and print this out for you. Some doctors do it the "old fashion way" and use the IMM medical form. Definitely ask them prior which one they do, and see if they need you to bring anything with you. It's a pretty basic physical exam, all the usual stuff - heart, lungs, blood pressure. The most painful part was the price tag! My doctor did blood and urine as part of the exam, then sent me down the road for the xray.

Make sure you have the xrays and blood work done.Sometimes it is not in the same building and you have to make another appointment for these.Its an upfront so they will send the results to CIC and they will match it up with your application when it is reviewed.Only you need the medical Yes you put your husband down as you spouse in the additional information.
