I haven't got medical request yet. But it says "We are reviewing the results of your medical exam."

is it possible to arrange to get the medical done in advance (i.e. go to a doctor and ask for a generic medical check) or must we wait for CIC's official request since the doctor will need to complete specific checks?

No, you must wait. You will get the request documentation. No more upfront medicals.
It also must be done by a CIC panel approved physician.
In fact, we just got the medical request.....and astonished to find out the cost to complete the exam. Ouch!!!
yes i did i called them about 30 minutes before and the lady told me that they just finished May 19 applications and that you should expect the AOR within the next couple of business days. She also told that it was not returned because i would see a returned note on your profile
They are playing on us but it might be true who knows there are lots of May 23rd applicants who did not receive their AORs yet i think one of the immigration officer's dog chewed on our apps. hhhhh
