I arrived in Canada last month and we were supposed to have a Customs form (B4 or BSF186) accompanied by a list of items and description of goods. However, we forgot to prepare one, so luckily they let us through and told me to submit one at a later time. Go to the Canada Border Service Agency site to find more info.

Just a quick note for all May applicants from visa-exempt countries, your final document may get lost in the mail. I just called in to check on my application because it's been over 2 months after my status changed to "Decision Made". The first time I called in, they told me that DM means nothing and that it could still take the full time (12 months) stated on the website. This seemed strange to me because other May applicants who had DM were getting their PPRs and final documents.

When I phoned in this time, I was told the same thing; so I insisted that they check if it was sent out. After some negotiating, she reluctantly checked with some supervisors and 30 min later found that the PPR or COPR was sent out at the end of August! We did not receive any letter or email for the whole month of September. We moved to Canada together in mid-October (visitor visa with ETA) and just waited. They will NOT send you an email...it seems.

Thanks to this forum, I was advised to link my wife's application to my account and checked to see the status " Final Decision: This application has been approved ". THIS MEANS THAT SOMETHING HAS BEEN SENT OUT. In the end, the officer I spoke to said that she would send a note to CIC to see if they could send it to my Canadian address where my spouse and I are living now.

MAIN POINT: If you have status DM on ECAS, link your account and then if you have Final Decision: "This application has been...", double-check your mailbox and if it hasn't arrived in 7 days from this status, call it in.

If it's just in his suitcases, and it's nothing very valuable there shouldn't be any issues. We sent over 12 boxes with household goods, electronics and clothing. We just needed to declare on the form the value and state that any electronics brought in were not purchased within that last 6 months. If he's just bringing in his own personal belongings, it shouldn't be an issue. They just want to make sure you're not bringing in anything of great value or that you're trying to sell.

so its really for those that have large amounts being transported. i don't think my husband is going to buy anything before going to canada. We will be going with whatever we have. Once we get to canada he will go shopping. The only things he would have that are of value is his laptop, his wedding ring, a gold chain and his phone. thats about it. in our case would we have to even list what he is bringing?

IMHO, I don't think he'll have to. They aren't really items for settling.

From what I have read it can delay PPR by up to a few weeks. There's no harm in doing it now and saving that time later!
