This is to acknowledge receipt of your application for Canadian Citizenship. Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) will review your application and supporting documents and will contact you if additional information is required. When your application has been reviewed and has met basic eligibility, CIC will invite you to a knowledge test, interview and/or ceremony, as applicable. To become a Canadian citizen, persons between 18 and 54 years of age must meet language and knowledge requirements: • Ability to carry on a simple conversation in either English or French. • Ability to pass a written or oral test on Canada's history, geography, government, and the rights and responsibilities of citizenship. Questions testing the knowledge requirement are based on the information provided in the Discover Canada study guide. • If you are receiving this letter by email, the study guide is available on the CIC website at www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/publications/discover/index.asp. • If you are receiving this letter by regular mail, the study guide is enclosed. The pass mark for the citizenship knowledge test is 75% (or at least 15 correct answers out of 20), therefore you are encouraged to begin studying for the test as early as possible to ensure that you are able to meet the knowledge requirement and to assist in the efficient processing of your application. Please visit our website at for the test. www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/cit-test.asp for more information on how to prepare It is very important that you notify CIC of any changes in your contact information (i.e., address, email, and telephone number). Please visit our website at www.cic.gc.ca for information on: 1. How to change your contact information; 2. Application processing times; 3. Checking the status of your application. You may also call the CIC Call Centre toll-free number at 1-888-242-2100.

Hi all,

I got the dreaded brown envelope in the mail today... puts me in a bit of a pickle...

According to the letter attached, my application was considered complete... but returned to me because my wife's application was not considered complete (somehow I missed the fact that she accidentally signed in the wrong box on the application. It was my job to check the forms :( ).

Apparently I have 3 options:

- Resubmit my old application with family members who meet the new requirements (my wife doesn't meet the new requirements, so this option doesn't count)
- Resubmit my own application, and it'll be processed according to the old law (pre- June 11th).
- Wait until we both meet the requirements under the new law.

This is obviously very frustrating, especially that it's my fault for not checking the application fully. Should I submit without her? Will this cause any issues later on? She has about 13 months until she's eligible under the new law.

Also, for those who have resubmitted... should I just send back what they sent me, with a cover letter? Totally confused tbh, since we paid for the application together, and if I apply on my own, we'll also need a partial refund.

Did they actually give you those options in the letter you received?

In case you missed the other topic about it... Processing times on the webpage
( http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/canada/cit-processing.asp ) have been updated.
For us the new "estimated processing time" is now "12 months or less".
RQs are still 36 months though...

Congrats to all the GREENS and the ones that will become soon.

I've been noticing that we turn GREEN a lot more often than we turn BLUE (only 8 in the spreadsheet).

What is the expected range from receiving AOR until IN-PROCESS?

CIC is following the google docs trackers, so they know exactly who is waiting for each colour.
That's their way of work.
