Hi All - I have applied for my Canadian Citizenship (only AOR received so far).
If I get married to a US citizen (while my Canadian citizenship application is still in-progress), how will it affect my Canadian citizenship application?
Please advise.

You can submit a webform to IRCC that your marital status has changed. The marriage itself won't affect your Citizenzhip application in any way. Unless of course, you're planning to leave Canada after your effective date of marriage. But that's a whole different story!

Thanks @novascotia27. I am worried if this will make the interview difficult, as they might ask if I am going to take up US citizenship or what are my plans going forward.

Your affairs going forward have nothing to do with your current application. If you decide to move south, you have all the rights to do so, even when your citizenship is granted.

Currently, not everyone is getting an interview request anyways. And if you get one, is usually to confirm you identity, verify your level of English, residency and other documents provided in your application. But it does not involve being questioned about your future plans with your Canadian citizenship in hand.

This is a great answer. The application is all about you and yourself, nothing else matters.

Would be grateful if anyone clarifies, why do people feel that leaving Canada after getting citizenship would ruin your chances and cancel your citizenship application ... it seems like a big no no to talk about it, while it is not mentioned anywhere that there is an obligation for all Canadian citizens to live and work inland !

It won't. Depends on how you take it. Some choose to go live and work elsewhere and that's fine. Just don't make it the focus point of the interview. Canada is expecting new citizens to add up to the society, culture, prosperity (i.e. taxes). And if you declare point blank that you are moving elsewhere upon receiving your Cship this might seed some wrong thoughts with the officials (passport of convenience). You are right in saying that there's absolutely nothing prohibiting one to leave the country though.

No, it is not an obligation to stay in Canada for citizens. BUT, before you become a citizen you remain a PR, you need to fulfill your residency obligation (2 out of 5 years). Leaving Canada after you submit the application gives officer the sense that you are getting a passport for convenience, instead of settling in Canada permanently. In some cases, that may trigger an RQ and extend the process unlimitedly. But these are all observations and guesses, no one knows for sure what impact it might have for doing so.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is an RQ?
