Hi everyone,

I've been reading the forums but I was hoping for some help too. I am a Canadian citizen (born here) and recently went to India and wed my now wife. We haven't known each other too long, started talked a few months ago via text, we liked each other so I went to see her in the small break I was able to secure by my school (doing clinical rotations). In that time we got engaged and married. I wanted to start the sponsorship now to get her here so we can move on with our lives. Any guidance is appreciated!

Thank you

Hi

Below is the link for Outland sponsorship ( recommended )

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp

There are 3 parts

Sponsorship forms and Immigration Forms and Country specific forms. Prepare your entire package and send it together to Mississauga. After the first stage Sponsorship approval (currently 62 days), it will be forwarded to New Delhi Visa Office. The posted wait time is 16 months for those recommended interview. If you are able to prove that ur marriage is genuine, then you can expect ur file to be completed in 8 to 10 months best case.

Prepare a relationship file where you include proofs like chat, emails, phone records, photos. There are many threads discussing this.
Get all the police checks done in advance. They must be sent within 3 months of obtaining them and are good till u finish processing.
Also do ur medicals upfront. They are good for one year. CIC may extend or ask for remedicals if they take more than a year to process ur file.
Pay all the fees in the beginning. All of these will speed up ur application or you may end up waiting additional 2-3 months.

Wonderful! ;D

8-10 months is quite long on its own ??? But I guess I don't have a choice in the matter. I have pictures of the wedding, we did a small one with the family we could get together given the short time we had. We also have wedding invitations, selfie pics we took together while spending time together, a few pics of our honeymoon in our room, and I have chat logs from whatsapp that I could send if needed. Phone wise, I didnt call her until after the wedding would this be problematic at all? Also when I do its from viber or a VOIP phone which I hope has some way to obtain logs.

I also wanted to see if you recommend hiring an immigration specialist to handle the case at all?

Thanks again for the great help.

I think your biggest hurdle is going to be overcoming the fact that you got married the first time you met in person. That is going to throw up a huge red flag for CIC. While I don't think you're going to need to hire any kind of consultant or lawyer to aid you, I do think you're going to have to work pretty hard to put together an application that is going to pass the scrutiny.

Best of luck to you.

Typically arranged marriages in India have the flavor u mentioned. CIC is well aware of this. So they only have general expectations.

Did u meet ur wife for the first time on the day of marriage ? And you say u never spoke to her on phone before marriage. This seems bit odd. So explain in detail what was going on , why things happened the way they did and be honest.

Is this first marriage for both of you ?

Did u have a traditional marriage with all the ceremonies ? CIC expects this in arranged marriages. Send all the pics u have of u two together and with family and friends.

It will take atleast few months for u to put together ur application. In that time try to gather more proofs.
I will suggest that u change ur method of communication from today.
- Call her everyday using a method in which u can obtain the call records displaying phone number, duration
- Do video chat ( skype ) and save the logs
- Write emails and chat regularly ( use gmail )
- take snapshots from Facebook showing wishes from friends.
- Send her gifts, bouquets and keep those receipts. And ask her to send as well. If you don't have birthdays around the corner, celebrate each month anniversary.
- also keep ur wedding expense receipts, credit card statements
- have u sent her money ?
- Can u create a joint account ?
- Add her as beneficiary in ur Insurance
- Add her as dependent in medical insurance
- Visit her in India
- try getting her a TRV so she can visit you. Chances of approval are less. But it will prove that she tried to visit.
- get parents from both sides to write you supporting letters.

I do not recommend an immigration lawyer. Waste of money. They will not tell u the things like I did. Frequent this forum and you will learn everything u need to know.

Thanks for all the advice!

This is our first marriage on both sides, we didnt speak on the phone before marriage but did talk through texting to get a general idea of whether our values fit together or not. We were both sent each others pics and then went from there to the next step of meeting each other. I was going to fill out some of the forms and noticed some of them need both our signatures on them. Would I be submitting all the forms here in Canada, and if so would having her mail me the forms signed and completed be enough? I can provide them with all our texts (we've been rather chatty especially recently), and we will be using skype soon as well. I have been calling her nearly daily through viber, although only for maybe 10-15 minutes as most of our talking is via text.

Finally, I'm a little confused on if I should be calling her my spouse or conjugal partner based on the fact that we live in different countries

Yes she has to sign the forms and courier them to u. She is your spouse and not conjugal partner.

Amazing help with all this

I just wanted to check how I should proceed with submitting proof. I'm waiting on my wife to send back the signed form (I believe IMM 1344 is the only thing that actually needs her signature on it). Should I make a letter and include it with the package with details of our marriage and relationship along with proof of contact? Or do I leave all that out until they ask for it?

You should send all the proof together with the application package.
