Hello,

Is it possible to get a marriage certificate in Canada for a marriage done abroad? I (Canadian citizen) travelled to India for marriage but we weren't able to register it there.
We will soon be applying for her spousal pr so I am assuming we will need a marriage certificate...

Appreciate any help/advise.

Thanks.

As far as I know, you can only register marriage in the country where it took place. You'll have to register and get a marriage certificate from India.

Thanks both. I was not aware of it. We were not able to register it in India since I am not an Indian citizen and were not able to travel to city mentioned in her national id card.

She will will arrive here on her TRV next week. I am thinking of options we have. If we get remarried here then can we get a marriage certificate? If yes then marriage date on her TRV and PR application will be different and it will need to be explained, but that won't cause issues, right?

Much appreciate.

Thnx. Since I didn't register it in India, can I remarry her here and get a certificate?
