Use the AOR to apply for your open work permit. IRCC does not really care about if you have linked your PR application to the IRCC account.
Thank you VLiu. I was wondering how you apply for OWP. Did you apply through your IRCC secure account? I tried to apply online through my account but I cant find the tab for the checklist and procedures. If you could share the info on how you do it, I will highly appreciate it. Thank you in advance.

I applied through my IRCC GCKEY account. Based on my experience, you can follow the protocol below:

  1. Log in to your GCKEY account.
  2. Click on 'Apply to come to Canada.'
  3. Answer a series of questions.
  4. You will get a checklist specific to you based on the answers to the questions.

Thank you so much. I also had sign up to the application status tracker. Do you guys have any experience on eligiblity and background check? Do you have any ideas how long that will take? My status says In progress for the BGC and the Eligility has not yet started.

Is there anyone currently awaiting clearance through background verification? Considering that the standard processing time for the Inland Spousal Sponsorship application is 10 months, as shown on the IRCC website, an application submitted in March 2023 is expected to receive a decision by January 2024.

Unless you live in Quebec!!

We're still waiting. There was one update in June - the medical visit was extended, from April 2024 to April 2025.

Has anyone from Quebec gotten any updates yet?

It's been exactly one year since we got any communications about our application, and the PR tracker still says "Background verification: in progress".

We ordered GCMS notes last month but saw nothing new. The last note in the report is from Aug 8, 2023, so it seems no one has looked at our application in the last 12 months

Hoping this means the first email will come very soon, but there was an update on the PR tracker that Background Check was complete as of November 29th!
I saw that (at least one) other applications from March 2023 got their P1 email very soon after the Background Check was passed.
The GCKey page though does not show any update.

Nice to see some progress! :) For us, the Background Check was completed on Nov 7, and we saw a COPR document number and expiry date in the PR Tracker, which wasn't there before. We didn't get any notification about this or anything, so it was a nice surprise!

We received the P1 email two weeks later, on Nov 21. We replied with the required info immediately, and have been waiting since then.

Fingers crossed you get your P1 email soon too!

We did!
The 1st email came yesterday, December 4th.
I also looked at the tracker and the COPR number and expiry dates are there now, they weren't when we noticed that Background check had been completed.

And the 2nd email came very quickly - 2 days later!
Crossing fingers to be celebrating the eCOPR before the end of the year!

So your: submitting the application in March and getting the approval in December is not very realistic, as per what the estimated processing times listed on the Canadian government's website are.
