Hello everyone,

I’m almost finished my spouse sponsorship application documentary part and i am planning to submit in this week only But, I have a doubt.
My study permit will expire on 31st march so should i need to apply for PGWP or not.
My husband is PR and i am on study permit status.
Please help me with this.
You should extend your study permit, or exchange to visitor visa. Because this week you just send your application when they look at your application, mostly your status expired and you will not qualify for exchange work permit.

No idea.

It is no longer on my list of threads...

Maybe a moderator deleted it or something...
I think its because someone sent a whatsapp group link. They normally don't want those

If the application is received before your permit expires then you will have implied status from the OWP application. If your application is accepted as complete, you will be fine.

If your application is received after your permit expires you wont qualify for OWP as you will be out of status.

If your application is returned as incomplete you might be out of status and will have to apply to extend stay as a visitor when you resend your package or before resending it.

You can wait until just before your status expires to extend your stay as a visitor

too early to receive emails from CPC. Its normally 30-60 days for one to actually get an email with the acknowledgement of receipt (AOR). You can cec the spreadsheet tracker for January and February to get a picture of the processing times. Also keep in mind that Ontario is shut down, with only essential offices/personnel operating. So it might take more time

Hello All,

We also mailed our application on March 22.
Does anybody know if there is a detailed explanation of the steps?
I am wondering when I will able to link my application to my online account or other staff ..

Thank you. :)

This below was written for outland process, but its more of the same; inland however only has one AOR. For inland applicants, AOR is normally between 4-6 weeks, but currently it has slow down to 7/8 weeks.

The beginning of the process - AOR1
Creating a GCKEY account
Sponsorship Approval
CIC sends requests
PA Processing
  • Your application will then be transferred to your local VO, or in some instances CPC-Mississauga. CIC will send an email to the sponsor confirming which VO it has gone to.
  • Once the VO begins to process the application, they will send the PA an email to confirm they have receipted the application, this is known as AOR2. Not all VO's send this email, however. https://imgur.com/3KAwhoK.
  • In some instances, for AOR2 you need to reply on ECAS to update to show when the application began to process under the applicant's details: https://imgur.com/Evp18Ca - this shows when your local VO began to process your application and is commonly referred to as 'Line 2 on ECAS'.
GCKEY Updates
  • GCKEY goes through various changes during the final stages, again, this doesn't happen for everyone, unfortunately, and you may find your application show eligibility and background checks in progress from the moment you link your account. You'll see the following towards the end of the process: https://imgur.com/a/nSDvwQt
  • This is the slowest part of the entire process as background and eligibility checks can take a long time to process. Some people get ghost updates on GCKEY as the application is worked on. This is shown when the status shows as Application/Profile Updated.
Checking ECAS
  • ECAS allows you to check for updates on the application and during the final stages will show decision made under the principal applicant's section: https://imgur.com/F3yPtfD
Passport Request (PPR) & Confirmation of Permanent Residency (COPR)
  • Once you've received 'decision made', you'll get a passport request emailed to you: https://imgur.com/a/RRL6H
  • You'll send your passport to the address listed in the email, along with two pictures and the document. If you're from a visa exempt country, they will request photocopies of your passport rather than the passport itself. Send this along with a signed Annex A to the address outlined in the PPR.
  • Once this has been processed, your GCKEY will update to show 'Approved'. You'll be issued with your COPR: https://imgur.com/a/f79qD
  • COPR will then be mailed to the address you listed in your PPR: https://imgur.com/a/gTdTl
You're then free to land with your COPR.

Landing in Canada
  • Depending on your situation, there are multiple options for landing in Canada:
    • The most common is for PA's that have remained outside of Canada during their full outland process outlined here: https://britishexpats.com/wiki/Landing_as_PR-Canada.
    • Flagpoling - this is the act of going to the nearest land border to have your PR activated. This is commonly used when the PA is already within Canada under dual intent. https://www.immigroup.com/news/flagpoling-your-way-new-work-or-study-permit-or-permanent-residence
    • Land at a local CIC office: This method can take a long time depending on how busy your local office is. Again, this is suited to applicants that are currently living in Canada. To book an appointment once you have COPR, call +1 888 242-2100 and request an appointment, you will then be contacted by your local office to arrange a date. Or for anyone who’s worried about toll-free not being included on their plan.

Please correct me if I am wrong.
What is interesting is that as I am checking the August and September 2019 inland forum. Most of them got their PR in 7 to 8 months!
Can we assume we will do the same?
Assuming this virus is not causing delay.

And Please let me know if we there is chat group for inland March 2020.

Thank you. :)

Nope because the virus is causing the delay. In fact, we can expect the applications to be processed for a much longer period due to the lines of applications for various visas getting stuck at the offices while no one is working.

If you check last year, people got AOR just in 4-6 weeks, but this year/from Nov-Dec-2019 mostly 6-8 weeks longer.
What would you expect is the same?
And every case is different timeline as well.
Anyway, Don't get mad on it.

We can hope the best, but so far there is a delay in issuing AOR

I agree that recently it got longer. But shouldn't we check the same month of our submission from the last year?
Like if I submitted at March I need to go back and check the timeline of the March 2019.

And one important note is that many people are saying outland is faster but as I checked you need to check which VO your case will go to. based on the PA's country. For example Ankara is even slower than inland for 2019 applications!

You are right, i noticed there are some countries where outland is extremely slow. You might be right about the months per year, for instance you might notice things tend to slow down in November, then right after chrismass they speed up :)
