As a person from the U.S. who applied inland last October, would it be faster just to take my application back and apply outland instead? :/. What is the current timetable for U.S. outland applications? I know the site says 30 months or so, but it seems like people are getting DM within a few months.

US Outland applicants are processed in OTTAWA. The stats you are quoting are regarding US visa offices such as LA. The ONLY files that get bounced there are ones with issues (criminal, dependant, etc.). Also, the stats online are not accurate for TODAY'S processing. They are during the strike and office closures, so of course the wait would be longer. Things seem to be back on track in OTtawa and they are moving quick. Hopefully it continues this way.

I sent my application in March and just got decision made on my ECAS. Other applicants are taking 5-7 months currently. There are still some from the end of 2013 waiting, though it seems they are seeing some movement now.

So yes, if it's possible to withdraw your application, and resubmit outland, i'd highly recommend it. Have you reached AIP (stage 1 approval) yet?get an AOR?

The inland processing seems to be stuck in stop mode, so there's no knowing how much longer you are going to wait! It is not suggested for US applicants with a straight forward application to apply inland.

you are probably better off asking this in the new dehli thread. there will be more people with specific information about your visa office there.

I did get AOR, no AIP. I am still months away from AIP judging by the pace they are going. The reason I applied inland rather than outland is because i saw stage 1 as 6 months and you get an open work permit with AIP. I am desperate to work ASAP and it seemed like the shortest way to get there. I was under the impression that if applied outland I would get to stage 1 in a month or so then it would take 1-2 years to actually become a PR and be able to work. Was i mistaken?

How would I even go about switching from inland to outland? Do i need to pay the fees all over again? Sorry for the barrage of questions but if outland is truly the best way then I want to make sure I go about the right way of doing things, because right now my common law partner is struggling since she is the only one that can earn an income.

Thanks in advance for the help/advice!

Currently it's taking upwards of 2 months for sponsorship approval for outland applicants. Then the file gets sent to the visa office in ottawa. Once there, it's taking another 3-5 months before a decision is made. If there is an issue with the app, it my take longer. As stated above, recent applicants are landing in 5-7 months time. There are a handful of files that have taken a year or more (Which include some in LA), and there are a good amount of applications taking 8-10 months. No matter which way you dice it, outland is definitely the quicket route right now to living and working legally in canada. I'd really recommend taking a look at the ottawa spreadsheet in my signature to see the current "trends" for us applicants.

as for withdrawing the application, i am not sure how that works. for the fees, i would immagine if they haven't applied them to your application, they are still useable. You will probably need to get a new FBI record. And of course fill out the outland forms, which are different than inland. I would recommend checking around this forum for expert advice on how to do it successfully, if it's still an option.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info, it sounds like I made a huge mistake and would have had DM if i had applied outland. It sucks but, nothing I can really do about it now. I am 9 months into my inland application and unless CIC-Mississauga continues to move 1 day per month.......i SHOULD still get my work permit faster by hanging on rather than re-submitting the application now. It shouldn't take 7 more months for them to get to the october inland applicants (one can hope). I'll just hang on for now, it is hard living with knowing that i made a mistake and the process may be over with by now if I had known 9 months ago what I know now. Sigh. Good luck to all applicants :)

For the record, I got my GCMS notes not long ago.
They literally have nothing in them except for markers that show when they started looking at each segment.
There were no helpful notes at all to pass along sorry guys.
