I am a March 2013 outbound applicant. My wife is Canadian and my sponsor (she had been living in the US since 1968 as a resident alien). On August 10th we moved up to Canada. I have a six month visitor visa. In February 2013 we applied for proof of Canadian Citizenship for our three kids, ages 15, 23, 24.
Our boarder crossing was easy enough, with a couple of anxious moments. I had documented everything in the moving van so completely that the agents were impressed 8).
Now we are living in BC, my wife got her Drivers License and SIN number and is looking for work. We have a long term lease, bank account, we applied for the BC Cares card, however without the proof of Citizenship Cards it is problematic that it will arrive before the end of the year.
I took a gamble that my PR will arrive prior to my VISA departure in February. We moved early due to my youngest being special needs (Autism) and wanting to transition him to Canada and a new school in the least disruptive way as possible. We got him enrolled and next up is to try to have his citizenship card expedited.
These things take time. So consider this wait an exercise in virtue.
