Hello All
I want to ask a question, My uncle is in manitoba but he receives support from the government as he and his family are low income family, so my question is

can I apply as "family assessment stream" ?

I'm qualified under this criteria and I've the +10K CAD the required funds.

thank you

Dear,

Your family member in Manitoba should be able to sponsor so they have to have some source of income with tax returns as well.

BK

My response is based on information i get from different forums from different ppl experiences. So based on that No he cannot.

But it would be better if your uncle can visit immigration office in Winnipeg to get the official answer.

Hi. I think you may still be qualified to apply under family stream. Unlike Family Class immigration category where the sponsor must prove that he can support the applicant financially, Provincial Nominees, which fall under Economic Class immigration category, are responsible for their own funding and settlement funds. If you are able to prove that you have sufficient funds, the financial status of your Manitoba relative may not be very important. However, in cases where an applicant cannot meet the required funds, the relative must be able to show enough financial resources to support the applicant. This is where the additional affidavit under MAS comes in. MPNP has several eligibility criteria. If you satisfy those set by MPNP I think you are still eligible to apply. Better read on the website www.immigratemanitoba,com and likewise read the MPNP kit. I hope this helps.

Dear Carl Zeiss,

One of the member who applied online under family stream "alan_eatbread" his sponsor ( his uncle ) was asked to present his tax return documents.

I am quoting his post here

"Regarding my uncle's interview, he was asked the questions like anyone else with the general questions about myself and my fam members. The officer asked him if he intended to settle in Manitoba for a long time as he just arrived here for 2 years. My uncle is self employed and that's why he was asked to fax his tax statement to MPNP. They also phoned to his friends asking about the work as well."

Hi BK. Please don't get me wrong but this is just to explain my reply.

Not all sponsors are asked to submit tax documents. In the case of alan_eatbread, his sponsor was self employed that is probably why it was required. If he was employed, it would be quite easy for Canadian government agencies to check his financial background. I know several people who have successfully landed in Manitoba and the financial capacity of their sponsors were not questioned because the applicants were able to provide proof of sufficient settlement funds.

I believe MPNP evaluates applicants on a case to case basis. No one can accurately say that what happened to one applicant and his sponsor will happen to another. What I told MRSWENG was that he MAY still be qualified for MPNP despite the financial condition of his sponsor, if he can prove that he has adequate settlement funds, and because of the fact that applicants are responsible for their own funding, and not their sponsors. I never said that he/she is outright qualified or not. I encouraged him/her to read on the website of Manitoba and the PNP kit for more detailed information

It is not right to simply say that someone is not eligible to apply. We should at least encourage forum members to do a little more research and let them see for themselves.

Regards and good luck to all of us! :)

Dear,

I am not an expert or qualified person to respond to such queries this is the reason I clearly mentions this in my responses that whatever I says are based on responses I got from other members.

That's the reason I mentioned in my reply to MRSWENG that try to get official answer from immigration office.

Thanks for inputs. I appreciate you sharing your views.

Yes you may apply under general stream as long as you meet the eligibility requirements indicated in the mpnp kit. This time you must have 2 friends or distant relatives who will sign an affidavit of support.

Family stream is for close relatives like parents, children, siblings, aunt or uncle, niece or nephew, grandparent or first cousin.
General stream is for distant relatives (other than those under family stream) and friends. Of course there are other criteria discussed in detail in the mpnp kit.

Good luck!

Hi, My husband and i will be applying under the family stream. The one who will sponsor us is my husbands second cousin. Would we still qualify for family stream even if they re just second cousins?

Dear,

Second is not under family strea. It will fall under general stream.

For family it's only mother/father/son/daughter/grandparents/first cousins/niece/nephew/aunt/uncle.

Dear,

Based on my understanding you cannot and should not apply under family stream. Instead of that work on general stream.
