Well that sux... I checked Cathay with my points, Solid full flights unti October 1st unless I want to book standby. I am going to call them to find out what that entails. It might work what with the strike and all...

Plus taxes,,,plus exchange on US dollar charge, plus exchange rate, plus seat cost, plus fuel surcharge,,,plus this plus that,,,,,,,oh my a deal went sour :o :o :o :o,,,,,,,,,,,i cant find a deal on these supposedly first time immigrant rates,,,,and they are risky,,,,,like st raphaels travel agency office is a fish warehouse with 1 computer

They are available for PAL and for Cathay, but they are all sold out for August. And most of September too. Not only that, but they are also mostly 3 plane combos for Cathay (not sure about the details of the PAL offerings). So transit time is a lot longer and many go through the US. I finally gave up on them. If you book months in advance they would be good.

Thought I found a good deal on cone travel but then looked at the after tax cost and it is higher. When you look on PAL or Cathay or on many other sites you get quoted the all-in fare. Cone seems to give you the base fare then adds in the taxes and everything after. So booking PAL direct is still looking to be the best available.

Ewww, checked on Avion points redemption on 1-way flights. You have to convert points to dollars so that makes a $1500 flight 150,000 points! And if I convert to Cathay miles I can get the flight for 55000 points, but they charge $10 per kg for excess baggage just from Manila to Hong Kong (then another $150 flat rate after that). And of course Cathay is all stand-by.

The search continues...

jUST THINK HOW MUCH CHEAPER THE ANNIVERSARY DRINKS WILL BE IN THE PHILS,,,ANOTHER SAVINGS,,,,,,,WOW you can have pork lecheon for your anniversary,,,,whole pig,,,,, no more than it would take to eat out in toronto

Not sure if this would help or if it's what you're looking for but here's some first time immigrant fare deals for PAL.

Ain't that the truth, the one benefit of the strike may well be that some of us, will be waiting while the prices climb before labour day. The prices start to look much better again a week into September.

P.s. no dear, I did not say that out loud, it was someone hijacking my account and trying to make me look bad :D
