I would think so. Five months is way too short to get a PPR.
It's also a bit soon for a medical to expire. People never seem to read the document checklist that says you have to include a medical exam.

I don't know how you would miss it.

Going through so many threads I have been left wondering just what people are thinking when they get the application package. Its all the same forms for everyone. The only thing that changes is what people add as their proof.

I think some people don't read instructions and just rely on word of mouth from what their friends did. People not in family class had to wait for their medical exam.. I think that is done for spouses in the USA as well.

Just read that a forum members wife walked out 2 months after arriving. Got her PR card and split.

Poor fellow. It just amazes me that (almost) nobody can help themselves but to insert a judgmental comment or two.

Regarding medicals, my husband did his on October 2, and then we had a long, drawn-out battle with his ex-wife to let us get his daughter included on his application form and get a medical done for her. With all the back and forth and yes and no, we finally got the application sent out on March 5, without his daughter being included on the application. So almost 5 months of wasted time because of that. Anyway, we are heading to Canada in 5 weeks and my husband will wait out his PR there while I'm working. I'm just hoping he won't be bored out of his mind and can find stuff to do to keep him busy while we're waiting. His medical will expire on October 2 and we'll have to get another one done in Canada, but either way, we'd still end up having to get it redone if we stayed in Korea to wait, too. I realize that this isn't a luxury that many of you have, because of visa exempt status and such, so I really have no basis to complain about anything.

That being said, congratulations to everyone who is moving forward in the process after such a long time waiting!

We had the same problem with medicals.. when he got the kids from his ex finally it was June, but I didn't send the application until the next April. I think the way things went we probably would have had to re-do them anyways. I'm sure your husband can find things to do while waiting! For example volunteering.. I found a nice volunteer opportunity the other day - the Royal BC Museum was looking for volunteers to check coats (also great for practicing English) and the bonus was free passes. It looked pretty cool.

I think those comments are people trying to convince themselves that they are not a potential statistic.

Everyone's all " well it's people like you who make the rest of us wait longer.. it's your own fault for not getting to know your spouse.. let's all list ways to get to know our spouses" THIS IS THE GOVERNMENT PITTING US AGAINST EACH OTHER. They spend ACTUAL resources trying to scare us about marriage fraud. Hey, it works. Trying to blame marriage fraud for all of their backlog when it's just a Conservative agenda that's at fault.

My husband is so cheerful and charming and outgoing that I'm sure he'll have no problem finding some kind of volunteering opportunity. In fact, I'm sure he'll make friends left and right just because he's so darned friendly (much friendlier and positive than me!) Once he gets his PR he wants to go back to school, although he hasn't decided what to study yet. I'm trying to convince him to study a trade he can use in Alberta, but I guess it's really up to him to decide what he's most interested in. Meanwhile, he says he wants to avoid the Korean community because he's really looking forward to being a Canadian and he thinks that if he hangs out with other Koreans it will keep him trapped in Korean habits and culture. I don't know if he can legally take any paid English classes while he's waiting for his PR, though, so he'll probably have to study by himself or find someone else who wants to study for free and they can help each other. His English speaking and reading are pretty good already, but not quite good enough to get directly into SAIT without doing some upgrading.

My guy is also charming and outgoing.. yes he's also trying to avoid the Filipino community and he is happy not to have to work with his countrymen anymore because of the crab mentality. In fact I showed him a job opportunity at a Filipino bakery and he said no way! However I do want him to make some friends eventually.. We found a lot of resources at the local immigrant and refugee society. They have free English classes. I'm not sure what kind of documentation they require. Also, we found out there can be quite a nice chunk of money available for trades training. About the English.. I try not to speak for him most of the time if I can help it. After one week his English improved 100%. After one month, he's doing really well. I think it comes from his co workers, he's coming home with funny slang like 'that's totally busted.' :p
