Does anyone know if you didn't pay the landing fee at the start of the application -- what stage do you pay for it during the process?

is during the request for the PPR? or when They issue the VISA?

Mostly during PPR, but you don't need to wait for them to request it. You can go ahead pay it online then send the receipt via email.
If anyone did this, can you please clarify the steps :) thanks!

I would also send a copy of it with your passport just to make sure as well.

I am still of the opinion that FSW's will still continue to complete the applications that are in the PPR stage or have been opened at least. The real damage will be to those that have just arrived to their home embassies. The stage 1 processing time is still a month.

Hey CJG, has your wife settled in? How is she enjoying Winnipeg?

New to this forum so please bear with me.

My wife (from Japan) sent our application in November 20th and they received our medical results but the status is still application received only. I'm reading some people on here who had their applications received later than ours getting it processed already. Is this something I should worry about? Also, perhaps this is a stupid question but since they asked for the medical check at the beginning, if the process takes longer than a year will we need to have another medical check done? Surely they can't be that inept can they? To ask for it at the beginning knowing it will be useless by the time they get around to processing the application.

Welcome to the forum...

When was your sponsor approval?

There is a spread sheet https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AtCLbbZupkY_dHJRT2R1alhXS2xaUzFTcHZsTUhVbHc#gid=0 that gives you an idea of where the visa office is at in terms of processing. If you like, you can add you information to it or send your info to scos and he will add it.

As for your question about meds. Yes they can ask for a remed if they have expired or about to expire. They asked it at the beginning when the processing times was only 7 or 8 months. Not it is up to 14 (except for Tagum) and they are still asking at beginning

Thanks for the reply. I received the email on February 4th about being approved.

I'm planning on returning to Canada in September and was hoping my wife could come with me. Is it possible that she comes for a visit while she waits for the PR? Does she have to leave and re-enter Canada once everything is done to officially "land"?

They are asking for PPR requests for some people that got sponsor approval at middle of January. So hopefully you will be soon.

As for your second question, it will be hard to tell. If her passport is at the embassy then she wont be able to travel here. Japan is a visa exempt country so she will not need a visa to visit. But she will have to leave and come back to land officially with the PR.

EDIT:

Sorry I need to correct this. Since you are from Japan, I don't think they ask for your passport so she would be able to travel to visit if she has not got her COPR yet.

Print out the receipt (or save it to a pdf file). Scan it to a pdf file (if you do not have facilities at home to do this then there are places you can go to) and attach it to an email.

Yes, she can 'move' back to Canada with you. Provide the Canadian address for her visa and she will have to flagpole (cross to the US and back) to land.

We just availed of RBC's welcome to Canada banking package. However you have to be careful because they set you up with a pretty pricey account that's free for the first 6 months. After 6 months we will have to remember to go in and change to the basic package. So yeah first 6 months are free next months are double.

My wife was settled by day 2. You think she has lived here all her life. LOL. I'm very impressed. We have all her documents now and she just wants to practice driving before she does her tests. She still has jet lag but wakes up with me in the morning and chats to her family while I go off to work.

That is great to hear... Glad she settled in so fast.
