I've been using MagicJack for a while now! Its like having a landline with a Canadian number right here in New Delhi, India!!!! The voice quality is excellent considering you have high speed broadband connection! My wife, in Toronto dials my Magicjack Canadian number, area code - (647) and there are no delays whatsoever in getting through! I love it and would definitely recommend it for people like us!! :)

I just want to add something about Skype......

My sweety and I use it, and here in the US we have Skype Mobile which can be used on a Blackberry with Verizon Wireless as the carrier. I believe there is an app for the iPhone also, but not certain of this. Skype on my cell helps, we can talk a bit more. Just like a Skype PC to PC call, it is free. :)

We've been using Magic Jack a lot, but it's super unhelpful for us because his shows up as a Florida number and he's in Canada. I'm sure CIC would believe that!! I don't think our phone records are what will sway our case one way or the other, though. We lived together for over 2 years and visit each other every 2-3 months, so our pictures and travel records are our weight.

My hubby used Magic Jack for a while, was handy. I use Vonage myself.

We would use his Magic Jack when we did not want to sit around the computer. And e would talk via Skype on the headset otherwise.

So much cheaper. Love it all!

I will say the quality of Magic Jack out of them all is the worst, but for the price? Who cares! You can still hear everything.

I use Vonnage, it's reasonably cheap and I can print logs of calls to/from my fiance's number from the website which makes getting phone records simple.

I looked into Majic Jack it seems they have recently added a way to see at least some of your call logs

http://service.liveperson.net/hc/s-61732089/cmd/kbresource/kb-8704647147301568453/view_question!PAGETYPE?sc=9&sf=101133&documentid=345526&action=view

So it possibly may work for those who need phone records as long as you print them frequently. It has a money back guarantee, (though people have claimed its not easy to collect on), so I may try it and see.

I'm curious about using Skype with a phone but either buying a dualphone or an adapter so I can use my current phone and getting a subscription, ($30 a year for unlimited US and Canadian calls) makes setup a bit pricey if it doesn't work well. But it does give you call logs and a monthly phone bill of $2.95 is a nice savings.

Look at the countries you can call free before you buy the SKYPE plan. Things change constantly, of course, but when I tried the "international" plan a few years ago, I found I could not call many of the countries I wanted to at no charge.
