What can happen if someone lies in the process of getting the documentation ready for getting married in Canada ?


Long story short, couple met abroad, he moved to Canada and in the process of getting married here, he "forgot" to mention that he was married before in is country.
What can happen if this is found out ?

They are already married for 10 years.

Is there a divorce document at least? Or he got married twice? I think he maybe ok as long as he lets CIC know about it with proper divorce papers.

Yes they will find out of your previous marriage status.

Here is the solution if you have submitted the application you should immediately withdraw it. submit it after attaching all proof and proper information again.

No need to withdraw, send in the prior divorce/marriage cert and draft a letter and send in an updated IMM0008 and clarify why the mistake was made in the cover letter and that it was overlooked.

Yes he already applied and he is already married in Canada for 10 years. In the documentation he provided he never said he had been divorced.

ok. It's been awhile since I've seen the sponsorship application forms but I'm pretty sure you have to disclose any previous marriages and prove you are legally separated by submitting documents (like divorce certificate). By not disclosing that he was previously married, he committed misrepresentation on his application and that is serious. This is not just an innocent mistake like you forgot the exact address of when you lived 5 years ago in your address history. This is a major misrepresentation. He needs to correct this before CIC finishes processing his application.

And as for your original question, since his original application had false major information, CIC could potentially revoke his PR status since it was obtained by fraudulent means. If he is a citizen now, I suppose they could revoke that too since his PR was obtained with misrepresentation
