Dear ASMB,
Ottawa has been voted best city to live in Canada on 2012 and it's been voted the same before (I did not know that...). Check out these sites that I've found. I reckon you can find helpful info there....I'm gonna look into Ottawa as well as it is looking promising (my husband is not gonna be too please if I decide to change cities again but we don't wanna move the boys around once we land so we've gotta get it right the first time). In any case it's looking cheaper housing wise than Toronto, still need to check the wages for chefs though.
Anyway, here are the sites: www.settlement.org (that's for Ontario and has lots of info)
ottawa.ca/en/ (click on "social and community services" and that will give you a link to immigration and lots more)
www.viewit.ca (that's the best for rental searching, recommended by a Canadian friend)
Don't forget to contact the settlement agencies they have been created to help new immigrants to settle in canada and have lots of info. I'm planning on contacting them before I leave just to get a head start......good luck
Thank you so much for all the info.
I trust you have attended the Canadian Immigrant Integration Program (CIIP). I found it very useful and they are continuously providing courses and seminars to help us and prepare us better. They gave free access to an online job search course, conected us to variuos people/organisations that are relevant to our profession and our further education aspirations. Recently they have arranged something with RBC. The email reads as follows:
Dear Clients,
Would you like to learn more about banking in Canada?
The Royal Bank of Canada(RBC) is organising a webinar on Thursday 25th October 2012 at 9:00 EST (Canada time) about ‘Understanding Banking in Canada’ a financial seminar for newcomers.
This seminar will provide you with general overview of banking in Canada, covering topics such as bank accounts, products, services and common banking terms used. In addition the RBC will review general financial topics like buying a house, saving for your child’s education and retirement planning.
The seminar is free of charge, it will last for about 1 hour and will be delivered through the WebAliance so you will be able to participate from the comfort of your home via online internet connection.
I suggest all applicants who have received their MR to attended the CIIP session. It is a prerequisite to register online. It is conducted in London and Dubai. Go to their website for detailed information. It is a full day session and worth your time.
