I think you will need to submit your passport to get immigrant visa because I know one UK resident "Wayne" who also has an id of "cappuccino" on the canadavisa.com immigration forum. His time lines are given below:


23 Aug 2010 = Application sent
30 Aug 2010 = Application received by CIO, Sydney
10 Sep 2010 = Bank draft cashed by CIO
15 Dec 2010 = PER (Positive Eligibility Review) confirmation
26 Jan 2011 = ECAS available!
11 Feb 2011 = ECAS “Received by Visa Office”
15 Mar 2011 = ECAS “In Process”
14 Apr 2011 = Medical requests received!
19 Apr 2011 = Medicals done
28 Apr 2011 = Medical results received by CHC London
16 May 2011 = RPRF/PCC/Schedule 1s received by CHC London
20 Jun 2011 = ECAS “Medical results have been received”
25 Jun 2011 = ECAS “Decision made”
28 Jun 2011 = Passport requests by email
07 Jul 2011 = Delivered passports in person to CHC London (Train booked)
21 Jul 2011 = Collected passports in person with visa stamped from CHC London (Train booked)
27 Aug 2011 = LANDED!! (Flights booked)

It all depends on the country of citizenship I think. He may be resident but if he does not have british passport then he would have needed a visa. For example, hubby and the kids l got britih pasports so they don't need a visa to go to Canada and they can stay up to 3 months. But myself, as I am peruvian and don't have a british passport then I have to send my passport to get the entry visa, eventhough I am a permanent resident here in the UK.

Yes it is good, but it has been now at that stage for nearly a month!! Would be good to get the progression now off that or at least to know what they are doing at present!!

Congratulations,

Medical line added normally means your medicals have been reviewed and accepted so it shouldn't be long to get PPR normally around a month so give it a couple of weeks and you may get good news....and start preparing your landing!!!!

QUESTION

With visa exempt countries do we have to produce are passports or just copies of our passport?

If we don't hand over our passports what do we actually get instead of a visa?

Why do we have to send copies when they already have notarised copies of out passports which we sent with our original application. Can't they just photocopy these?

As my questions normally get ignored I will be posting this question every 30min until I get an acceptable response

Hi not going to ignore you and going to attempt to answer your questions! If you hold a passport from a visa exempt country you only have to send copies of your passport. They can't use your notarised copies as they ask for copies (only) of all pages of your passport As there are about 32 pages in a passport and I had to do 4 this took a while!! They also asked me for two recent passport photos and I had to fill in an updated information chart. It also seems they send you a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR) document for your visa.
