I have no idea! Mine said I have to send in Originals by MAIL! I just followed what they told me. I have been wondering the same thing but I have no clue why. I had to include 2 photos. From my observation (which I could be wrong) it seems like if you had the request from LA you have to send in the originals but if you get it from Ottawa you just send in copies but again I could be wrong!

Yes, I think if you go through LA you need the actual passport, but through Ottawa they will ask for a copy only. It clearly states it when you receive the email. And it doesn't seem like the process is shorter at all for just the copy - in fact, it could be longer as of right now.

LOL. If I would have checked my Email before I sent those msgs I would have seen....

WE GOT OUR PPR!!! (October 31) ;D This is so exciting. Only problem is I'm in Canada now and have to go back to get the pictures and the passport in since we only have 15 days to get documents back.. (my son is a dependant and he isn't here right now)

;D ;D ;D ;D ;D :o :o ;D ;D ;D ;D

That's really grand! Congrats.

Congrats to all! :) I updated what I saw of the spreadsheet, as usual, if I missed anyone, let me know! :)

Hubby and I are patiently (not) waiting for PPR. Just got our winter tires on today, apparently there's going to be snow this weekend YIPES!

We sent photocopies even if they asked for the original valid passport. The lawyers said it's just a generic e-mail they send and that copies are ok as he is a US citizen.

I saw that the address changed?! I take that as good news, I'm sure photocopies for US citizens are okay :) But do let us know!! (Obviously!)

None on here no. You don't need to keep putting your information out, it's on the spreadsheet :) Hopefully you hear something soon, it seems like it's taking quite a while for you, I'd call CIC and see what's going on.

Welcome to the spreadsheet! :)

CIC seems to be a bit confused themselves, not telling us where our files are! Crazy!

checked Ecas
they updated
"medical results received" under "application received" tab

hoping for good news this month

We've been in process since August 21, 2012. Haven't heard anything since October 16th when they asked to ignore the request for a new FBI check and that they are extending the medical. We're thinking that my hubby will land sometime in January since they've been sitting there doing nothing with our file..asking for stuff they don't need and waiting on the extension. We've pretty much given up hope that we'll hear anything anytime soon. This is so stupid. We've submitted our change of address online and hopefully they'll update it but who knows. We're going on 9 months since we've sent in our application....!@#% immigration Canada!

I just got my GCMS notes first time since i filed my application..
and i am so confused.
everywhere it says
application 1
application 2
application 3 and so on
and can anybody tell me at the end of the gcms
there are few notes.
which states few things about me..
and there it says interview required
does that mean i will have an interview ? as per those notes ?

under the eligibility section
it says not started
security not started
it just says medicals passed

m soo confused

There are several areas related to your application, including the "application status" - these are individual records for each time someone has touched your application. They are listed in reverse order (so most recent activity is printed first, to oldest activity printed last). There is a sequential number (most recent to oldest), an indication of the application's status (e.g., open) the reason for that status (e.g., "in process"), decision information (if any), the office where the person touching your file is located, the date of the entry, and the identifier of the CIC person touching your file (in the format "first initial, last initial, five digit identifier).

The "application" area seems to consist of records for changes to the application information itself (e.g., my own notes from last month which show a change of "Primary Office" from "Ottawa" to "Los Angeles". Similar format to the "application status".

Eligibility would say "not started" if they required an interview, because the legitimacy of the relationship is required for Eligibility. In my own notes I see an entry for Eligibility where it went from "in progress" to "passed" and five days earlier it went from "not started" to "in progress".

Some of the entries are redacted. For example my "security" update says the 'old value' was "not started" and the 'new value' is blank, as is the date, but the entry before and after have the same date, so THIS entry must also have the same date and elsewhere the same officer says the application is RFV ("ready for visa").

The notes don't say why they want an interview? It's a bit odd, and a bit rare, but it means they should transfer your file to an office in the US, hopefully the one you requested (NYC, Detroit, Seattle, LA).

There is a thread on here to discuss the meanings of GCMS notes.

yea. even i was confused that the 'eligibility' section says 'not started' and under notes they say interview required..
may be.. if the complete the eligibility section.. then they would decide they need interview or not..
I am worried that they just complete medicals, criminality..but not security and eligibility ..and now i feel its gonna take time :( :( :(
