This has been the subject of many discussions here on the forum. I can not give you a definitive answer as I do not work for CIC. However based on observations and feedback from other members, it appear that the background check and criminal check clearance are two separate processes.

It appears that the background checks are usually done before medical requests are sent out. It involves things like scanning through your travel history, gaps and inconsistencies in educational and employment history. consistency of names on certificates, checking for proof of residency if living/lived in other countries. The outcome of this appears to often determine if the applicants gets MR or if their application will be delayed. Straight forward cases tend to go straight to MR after this. If certain inconsistencies are found, they may refer the case to another officer who do a more forensic evaluation of the case/information provided. In some instances, it appears that they employ external agencies to do a more thorough investigation.

It appears that in most instances, criminality checks are run after the above process is completed. Now this is where I am not entirely sure as it appears some applicants get their PPR before the results of their criminality check arrives while others are delayed until after the results arrived. I am not entirely sure why this is the case. As I said earlier, this is based on my observation and nothing official.

I hope this helps.

Aquib, it got encashed on 21st of February (4 days after "medical received" line was added to my eCAS). Till then, no news :) By the way, is there any link between dd encashment and case approval?

Just got a call from my consultant, they received my PPR-1 via email. Thanks to God.

Though its amazing that LVO didnt send us the mail directly.. and it was sent to my consultant on 30th April2012 (Same date when my and many other applicants' eCas address got disappeared.) and my lazy consultant forwarded this to me today, after ONE WEEK!!

My address also disappear today..
my PPR-1 Updation is still in way to reach LVO

Friends!

My RPRF was encashed on 4 May 2012. ECAS showing one line "We received your application for permanent residence on ..............".

No medical received line yet. What does this mean? Please tell.

hi 9jcanada,
please update my status ( medical received line added to e-cas 6-may-2012 )

Hi 9j, thank you for your observations. I fully understand this is just your personal opinion and nothing official, thanks all the same. However, I would like to repeat aammartahir's question. Does adding med recd line on ecase and rprf encashment indicat a positive outcome at the end? In other words, is med recd on ecase updated only if our medicals results are OK? If you could throw some light please, thanks :)

So far as we've seen on the forum, everyone who got 'MR received' line had gone to receive PPR (with varying time frames). CIC rarely refuse an application on medical ground without giving the applicant opportunity to clarify or address the medical issue(s). Hence, it is my opinion that if you did not receive notification to further your medicals a few weeks after MR received line, you can be certain that all is well with your medicals at least. Any prolonged delay for PPR after that can be narrowed down to delay with security clearance or may be the visa officer has gone on holidays ;)
