Re: Working while visiting Canada?

Why don't they just apply for a work permit? And it looks like you're applying for a TRV too, hope you're not planning on doing what your friends are doing.

hi,I have a question,
I have friends who go to canada for a visit of 5 months and they work there(ilegally of course) under the table...
my quesiton is,how do cic can find out if you worked while visiting? i mena if you dont have your social number there ,how can they know?
i guess if you get paid with ''cash'' they cant find out,,but if you get paid with checks they will?
thanks

There are many ways, for example someone calls the police. And it is not that rare, for example once the gf of the owner of a construction caught the guy cheating on her. She knew he was employing illegal immigrants, so she called immigration to screw the guy and his company. And so on...

Your friends are risking a lot. People do it because it is worth it, and illigal workeers are an issue in Canada. Be careful.

hi,thank u for the replies,,
NO,,I'm not planning on doing it,,I'm marrying a canadian citizen so I will be able to work legally eventually since I will become a canadian resident..I was just wondering how my friends pull it off...
but for the user who said ''why not get a work permit''?
DO you realize how hard that is????

It is not THAT hard. There are many programs for eventual foreign workers or to come on projects. In my experience I have seen that illegals haven't tried enough (if at all) to get proper documents, they just assume they will be denied or they haven't done enough research to get their papers in order.

Re: Working while visiting Canada?

Dude I come from Cuba,,and I tried 12 times for work permits,,,maybe citizens ''from other countries'' have better chances,,but I'd love to see someone from Cuba or ''bolivia'' or Haiti getting a canadian work permit,,,it just doesnt happen,,
thats why you get the ''fake marriages'' canada doesnt wanna find a better way to provide visit visas,,they get more money in marriage applications..

Re: Working while visiting Canada?

jddalove, it's not hard to get a work permit at all. It all depends on your choice of job. If you work in the skilled trades for example, you will get a positive LMO VERY easily, as there is a huge shortage of workers in that field, and employers are struggling to find Canadians who want to work those jobs.

Re: Working while visiting Canada?

''skilled trade''..not all of us are skilled,,,what about the guy who knows only to be a server? no hope for him..
so,the ones working ''illegally'' in canada,,are mostly..the unskilled ones,,trust me..

I am from Mexico and know plenty of Cubans, Bolivians, Peruvians, Colombians, Central Americans, etc. that have gotten work permits in serving, doing low skilled jobs, cleaning houses, etc.

No excuses to break the law.

Re: Working while visiting Canada?

cubans who have gotten work permits as servers to go to canada? Usted no sabe lo que esta hablando....
Cubans have a freaking hard time in order to get a simple visit visa to go to canada,,go figure ''getting a work permit'' as ''server''

and as ''breaking the law'' dont make me go there mexican guy,,,we all break the law.
Truth is we are all living in a giant rock ,,flying through space and,,some stupid minister is concerned about ''other human beings'' working in ''the country he stole'' in first place.

Re: Working while visiting Canada?

To answer the question originally asked, there are a number of different ways people are caught:

- someone reports the individual to CBSA
- someone reports the employer to CBSA
- the employer is a past violator and CBSA conducts a spot check
- CBSA conducts a random spot check

I'm sure there are others...

Re: Working while visiting Canada?

Add to that, a deserved or undeserved stop by any police force. Eg. Traffic violation, random identification check, RIDE, being a witness to a crime, being a victim of crime... The list goes on...

And of course, that final "catch-all", being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
