So I am a chef from Germany here now as a visitor in Canada visiting my fiance. I have a job offer for a chef position and last week my LMO just became approved. I've been told by CIC that I have to reenter Canada to get my work permit. But since there is still this moritorium on the food industry for temporary foreign workers I fear that I still may not get my work permit. Does anyone have any advice?

I understand you have a work permit to that LMO? or you are going to apply for one at the point of entry?

My advice is to wait week or two for moratorium to be over. If you or your employer can't afford waiting then just go to the border with the us and show them your lmo&wp(if have one) but it's a slippery slope and can go both ways.

Obviously you only have an LMO and not a work permit YET (unless i misunderstood something).

I am surprised that they approved an LMO on food industry as you say last week. Any way it is risky to go to border at this point.

Wait for a week or more. People are expecting the moratorium to be lifted soon. Get wp once it is over. I am sure your LMO would be valid for sometime - a few months at least. As long as you go to border with in it's validity, that is okay - of course AFTER the ban is removed.

Thank you everyone for your replies. Yes, I think it is best that I wait a couple weeks, which I have been doing. Hopefully the ban will be lifted soon.

Hi Everyone, I am totally new with this forum. anyways, i just would like to know from anyone about my case if it's still possible that my application will be approved. I am an FCA applicant and was supposed to be on Visa processing already, but I just received an email from CIC that my work permit application is suspended because my employer's LMO was suspended due to the Moratorium and will have to wait for further notice once the moratorium is lifted. I don't know how long..but you guys think I will still have a chance that my work permit and visa will still be approved once moratorium is lifted?thanks so much...

Just wanted to update you all that we went to the border crossing in Maine this week and after and hour and a half process of crossing the US border, being turned around, and then speaking with a Border Services Canada agent, I received my work permit. ;D

They were a little confused as they assumed all the Food Industry work permits were on hold. They needed to double check my LMO to make sure that it was not suspended, which I wasn't. I think mine was approved because I work for a restaurant in a resort and from what i've read in the news, that hotels/resorts are not effected by the moratorium.
