Applied for an extension of my LMIA exempt work permit in id July and have had no communication from CIC since the e-receipt saying they had received it. They haven't updated processing times for two weeks. I've been on implied status for more than 2 months.

Has anybody else who applied in June/July/August had any news on their applications?

Very first one is Visitor Extension processing time. Its 133 days for online and 121 for paper application.

CIC is currently working on June 18th online applications and June 30th for paper applications.

You can call Customer Service if his application has exceeded normal processing time.

Here is the processing time as on October 30th.

You will get your work permit approved soon

I called this morning, they are currently processing applications from before June 30th so expect a few more week's wait.

Are you sure that's not July 30th? The website says they were processing applications from July 5th on October 30th, which is two weeks ago.

In certain circumstances, you may qualify for urgent processing. If you meet one of the criteria outlined below, you must clearly mark “URGENT” on your mailing envelope. You must include proof as to why urgent processing is required. If you do not meet the criteria below or do not provide sufficient proof, your application will be placed in the regular processing queue.

The criteria for urgent processing are as follows:
•You face immediate loss of employment, or an employment opportunity, because you are not in possession of proof of your immigration information. Include an original letter from the employer indicating this requirement.
•You are unable to receive urgent services from other government departments at the federal, provincial, or municipal level as a result of the error that was made on your document. Urgent services may include medically urgent health services, obtaining a Social Insurance Number (SIN) if failing to obtain one will cause immediate loss of employment or an employment opportunity, etc.
You must provide proof of your situation, including:
◦photocopies of any letters or other documentation from other federal, provincial or municipal government departments, or
◦an original letter from your employer, or
◦a letter explaining your situation, or
◦any other documents you may have to support your request for urgent processing.

Hi Pretty_girl, is the above info relevant if I need to amend a work permit application that I've already submitted? I'll explain why I think I need to do that:

On August 31st my Post Graduate Work Permit expired, so on August 21st I applied for an extension of my PGWP on paper using form IMM5710E. I knew I wasn't eligible for an extension, but I applied anyway just so that I could stay and continue working in the hope that I would eventually get an invitation to apply for permanent residence.

And I got the ITA on Friday the 13th! I submitted my PR application on Saturday the 14th. My PGWP extension hasn't been denied (yet) so I am still on implied status. My priority is to keep working until I get PR and my hope is that I can amend my PGWP extension application and turn it into a Bridging Open Work Permit application, since I'm eligible for one of those now.

Today I called an immigration lawyer to ask if amending an application is possible and he said yes! He also said that it is very easy and recommended that I do it myself (his firm would charge $1,000). The only thing is that I can't find any instructions anywhere! You seem to be the real expert here - do you know anything about how I could do this? I'm petrified that I'll make the wrong move and find myself unable to work until I can get PR or restore my status. Thank you thank you thank you for your advice on this thread!

I will be happy to help you as much as I could but before I need to know few things:

Did you send a paper application or online?

Could you please explain me what forms did you submit and whether you filled out any employer's information on form IMM5710?
What did you put where it asks for type of work permit you are applying for?

PS: Usually, we can not submit more documents after an application is submitted.

Thank you!

- I submitted a paper form. IMM5710E. And the receipt for processing fee. A full copy of my passport and my existing PGWP. I should have included the LMIA-exempt fee payment receipt from my employer but I didn't :/

- When it asked what type of work permit I was applying for (Question 1 on Page 3) I selected "Post Graduation Work Permit".

- I did fill information about my employer (Questions 2-5 on Page 3). For "Duration of expected employment" I selected from "2015-08-17" (which was that day's date) to "2016-08-31". That would be the maximum of four years on a work permit in Canada (because my work permit had begun on 2012-08-31). Of course I can't have a PGWP for more that 3 years, which I knew, but my goal at that time was just to eke out more time on Implied Status.

I wonder why the lawyer said it would be easy to amend? I called CIC to ask about it and I'm on hold now. I'll let you know what they say. UPDATE: The phone representative said it was flat-out not possible. Yikes.
