Hello Forum,

My current status: PGWP (Expiry: September, 2015)
Spouse's current status: Open Work Permit (Same expiry date)

- We have recently applied for Ontario PNP letter. It is getting delayed.
- We both are employed right now. For safety, We are planning to extend our current Work Permit.

Questions:
1. Can we get our work permit extended? If yes, will that be a open / closed work permit after extension?
2. In our case, are we exempted from LMIA for work permit extension? If yes, do the current employer pays the "compliance fee - 230$" and files "IMM5802 - Offer of Employment to a Foreign National Exempt from a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)"

I assume these the following documents required for the extension:

IMM 5710 - Application to Change Conditions, Extend my Stay or Remain in Canada as a Worker
IMM5802 - Offer of Employment to a Foreign National Exempt from a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA)
IMM5401 - Stamped Receipt | Employer Compliance Fee with proof of payment - $230

Has anyone done this before? Please let me know. Thanks in advance!

You can extend without an LMIA once you've received the nomination from Ontario. Until then, you need an approved LMIA to extend.

Thanks @scylla for your response.

1. If my employer can do LMIA to extend, will my new work permit "closed" or "open"?

2. If "closed" work permit is issued to me as an extension, can I use this to extend my spouse work permit?

3. After I get PNP, can I extend my work permit with just the "PNP confirmation letter" or do I also need the "AOR of PR using PNP."?

Regards,
Vejey
