Hi! I'm a live-in caregiver here in Edmonton, AB.. I already read most of the posts here and haven't come across this subject yet..

I'm very curious as to how you know when your employer is paying your tax and other contributions?
-is there a number to call?
-a website to visit?
-do I go to service Canada?
-anything at all....

My employer is very sketchy and I'm skeptical about him paying my taxes. I know he'll get into trouble as so will I, I'm trying to avoid the whole scenario. Any information about this is very much appreciated, Thank you!

Answers here will help out other in the similar situation too.

P.S. I get paid via check at the end of the month

hi! since when did you start working with your employer? I so empathize with with you. i felt exactly the same way when i was starting. good thing they were able to provide me t4's after each year.

You can find the phone number of the revenue services here: http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/cntct/phn-eng.html

question, do they pay it monthly or annually?

maybe you mean if the employer remit our taxes monthly or annually...usually its annually at the end of the year they have until feb 28 to give us the T4. some employer they remit it quarterly but still T4 slip will be given to you after they file on CRA and you must file your tax before april 30.

its easy u can find out if ur employer pay ur taxes just phone service canada ask them i want to check if my employer pay my taxes

The employer maybe withholding the deductions but is not remitting the withheld deductions monthly. They may even do the remittance on the following year when it's time to file the returns.

You can also ask your employer for your payslips with deductions to see if your taxes is being paid.

Thanks! to all those who replied :D

I started Feb this year. I will try the numbers. He said that he remits them monthly. I'm doubtful about it the fact that he's dodgy whenever I ask him. Doesn't hurt to make sure...

I'm their first caregiver and when I started here, boy! were they surprised of their obligations to the gov't and the days off and all that. We had our shares of misunderstandings they even thought of letting me go but I argued that they don't have the right grounds to fire me...
(I love that I have my own basement suite, that's why ;) )
anyway, all is good now and they got surprisingly close to me as I to them.

To all that searched for this, hope this helps you out. Peace!
