Hi, I am a filipina working here in italy for 5 years as a domestic helper. my sister is planning to hire me as a live in caregiver in canada. I just wanted to know if my experience as a domestic helper will qualify as a caregiver in canada. do I need to get a referal letter from my curent employer. I did not study 6 mos of caregiving in the phil. but i Have the experience. I am a college graduate. is there a possibility that i will be denied? thanks ;D

If you don't have any education as a caregiver, then you need at least one year of full time work experience as a caregiver in the last three years to qualify to apply for a work permit. Your experience as a domestic will not be accepted by CIC. You need actual work experience as a caregiver if you want to be approved. So yes - if you apply right now you will be denied since you don't meet the requirements to apply.

My first job here is caregiver , elderly care for about 1 year and a half but he died. and that was way back 2009-2011, do you think this will qualify as my experience? thank you

No - unfortunately it won't. The experience must be within the last three years.

You can use your domestic helper experience as long as you have child indicated to your contract and specifically explain your duty that you are taking care a child on you previous employer in your reference letter.

There is already a new program for Live in, it is now called Caregiver program. Better check the requirements if you are qualified as all application and approved LMIA by Nov 30, 2014 will now be processed under the new rules under Caregiver Program.
