No, Rosell. I think you are wrong here. I am in Alberta too. So, just a day or two before they sent me my OWP, I got a letter from Alberta Health care saying that their records show that my papers (Work Permit) expires on November 26, 2011. They warned me that my Alberta healthcare insurance will expire the same day. I called the number given there and told them that I had sent my papers for OWP and PR last year yet. They automatically extended my healthcare insurance for 90 days and said that as soon as I get my new papers I should make a copy of my healthcare card and a copy of the new Work Permit and send it to the address provided there in the letter. This is what I did when I received my OWP.

Maybe, it's impossible to renew your healthcare insurance if it expired a long time ago.

@oksy- mine will be expired on jan 2012 so i dont know if i have to extend my work permit for my health card purposes what d u think iam with dependents

Hi! I might be wrong but as far as I know The official receipt is your copy when you pay at the bank before submitting your application. It has bank stamp on it. There are 3 copies of it and you keep the customer copy for yourself and send the CIC copy with your application and the bank keep the other copy for their records. Hope it was helpful!

they usually send that letter reminding that your papers will expire soon. They do that 2 months before your papers expire. Just wait and see how it goes. They will probably send it to you sometime in November. It has the phone number you have to call after receiving that letter. Have you healthcare card at hand because they will ask you the number and they also ask some other questions like when your birthday is, what your address is and so on. Anyway, have all your papers ready to answer all their questions and they will extend it automatically for 90 days after the expire date. They DO NOT ASK there if you have any dependants. So, you are fine for like 5 months. Hopefully, the things will start moving for those who have dependants. I have many friends with the same problem. We can only pray and hope. You and I and many others have been on this forum for a very long time and tried doing many things, but it looks like it's very difficult to fight this iron machine - the CIC. Just hope and wait. The CIC has no way out, they just have to give you all the papers, sooner or later. I really feel sorry for all you guys, still waiting for the light at the end of the tunnel and pray that you can unite with your loved ones as soon as possible.

@oksy-yup i can still remember constructing letter right? I still want to renew my work permit just in case my oPen will be not here after that extension , i hope oksy there will be light for that iam an august applicant

i also want to share here in quebec can also renew medicare even if your wp expired as long as your working with the same employer. Bring original and photocopy of CIC official receipts, letter of employer, medicare card, latest T4 or paystubs, and old wp. And they will renew for one year.

Im from Ottawa and just called Ontario Health Care because mine will expire on Oct 31 and I have annual medical appointment on November 28. The lady that I talked to said I can't renew my OHYP Card because my work permit will expire this month. I need to renew my work permit first or wait for my open permit/pr before I can renew. I even told her that after Oct 31 I will be implied status because my pr application is on process and I'm working on the same employer but she said still I dont have a valid work permit, implied status is not valid to renew OHYP Card... I will pay first my medical checkup then they will reimburse my payment valid only within 3months if my pr/open permit will not released for 3 month then my payment to my check up will not reimburse...

so disppointing... why they dont have the same policies...we need health care because we are working....
