Hi, Please give me an advice,,,
I sent my PR application and OWP beginning of september 2010. I lost my work end of october, Im looking for new employer but I couldnt find yet. I read about EI and it says I can apply it.
so I did. with ROE and workpermit. I got a refused letter. it says,
Your Employment Authorization restricts your re-employment in Canada to work with (my previous employer's name). This means that you are not allowed to work for someone else and therefore, cannot prove your availability.
my question is,,,, why immigation site says we can apply for EI benefits when we lose job???
How???

It even says so here: http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca/eng/workplaceskills/foreign_workers/ei_tfw/ceie_tfw.shtml but it does say something about meeting other requirements though.

In the past, temporary foreign workers have usually been denied benefits based on that unlike other unemployed people, you are unable to take another job that comes along because you are restricted by your work permit. Recently, I have heard of a few cases where temporary foreign workers were approved for benefits. You can try appealing their decision. A lawyer might help.

whats the reason of your out of work? if its your employer they should make a letter specifying the reason of unemployed. what do they put in you ROE? (record of employment)

Hi, Thank you for respond

Well, I started get tired and decided Im going to try find new employer.forget EI benefit.... so I asked him ,could I stop reporting. His answer was I continue until I will get OWP or get a new job,,,,

Hi everyone, I am just thinking of this EI thing. I am in the same situation and want to apply for EI.Someone said the point is in the ROE, if you got A in your ROE, then you are eligible for the EI. Is that true?

By the way, This A in ROE means the employer does not need my service anymore and it is not my fault to lose job.

bakerfrench, if your ROE is "A" it means no more existing jobs or bankcraft you are qualify for EI but if your employer wrote end of contract or finished contract it means you are not qualify becuase he/she have still the capacity to hire somebody.....thats why sometimes it depends upon the employer if you can claim for EI,.....even u quit your job if the employer is kind enough he /.she put "A" in your ROE.... you are very safe ...

EI for temporary foreign workers is a hit and miss. Some get it, some don't. Depends on the person you talk to, which office etc. On one hand, you have paid into it, on the other, if you don't have an open work permit, you are not available to take a job that comes along because you would need an LMO and a work permit. That is why some offices will deny you, because you are not able to take any job.

Is it by any chance that your spousal sponsorship was already in progress then when you applied for your EI?
