Hello everyone. My name is Martyna, I'm 18 years old and I'm from Poland.

So this year I'm going to the USA as an aupair to gain childcare experience (a year) and then I plan to become a live-in caregiver in Canada. I was wondering if I can start looking for a canadian family, apply for a visa and all these while I'm still in the US.. let's just say after 8 months being there. Now I have over 3400 hours of childcare so maybe I could apply before the end of my year as an au pair?

If no I have two options - applying for a International Experience Canada visa and being in Canada (working etc) and looking for the family at the same time... but I was hoping to save this visa for the time when I finish my two years in Canada and not wait for OWP but just move out and start working.

OR I can extend my stay in the USA for another 6 months and look for a family from there. Although I really hope that I can apply earlier since I have some experience :) What do you think?

You need to complete one full year (12 months) of related paid work experience to qualify for the live-in caregiver program. If you apply before you have 12 months of experience you will be automatically refused since you don't qualify.

Hi,

I recommend that working and looking for the family in Canada under the International Experience Canada visa. I did so, and it was easy to find a family. Lots of families who are looking for a nanny, need a nanny as soon as possible, and they prefer to meet in person before hiring. Since you will work for two years, you should meet the family you will work for and see their house.
Also, you might be not able to get the International Experience Canada visa after working in Canada for two years because the visa is very special for "Experience in Canada". I know some friends who couldn't get it because they applied for it after studying in Canada for long. You can continue to work the same family till you get OWP if you applied for PR and OWP before the expiry date of the LCP work permit.

Don't forget to take health exam before you work as nanny under the international Experience visa otherwise you will get in trouble. You need to take health exam when you apply for live in caregiver anyway.

Can you guys help! I'm sough african, but the past 2years I'm in europe as an aupair. I have aupaired one year in the Netherlands and now busy finishing my years as aupair in belgium. I haven't been home in this time. Can guys maybe tell me if this work experience can be seen as the requirements:One year of full-time paid employment, including at least six months of continuous employment with one employer, in such a field or occupation within the three years immediately before the day on which they submit an application for a work permit

Please let me know! I have a family and everything we just don't know if they will approve it!

I think you can get a work permit for LCP if you worked as a full-time aupair for more than one year within three years, and you could prove it. However, nobody knows you can get it or not until you apply it...

Hi, I'm new here... I'm a Filipino Registered nurse passed NLE Dec. 2012 but never had worked nor voluntered in a hospital...my employer is now processing for LMO. I just want to ask if:

(a) I still have to undergo 6 months caregiver training and pass NCII to qualify under LIC?
(b) Do I still have time if I will take caregiving course while my employer is processing for LMO?

I hope you have answers to my querries...Thanks!
