Hello Everyone,

For a starter, what is the livable income if you are in Richmond BC or nearby?
at least how much per hour rate in the job you need? each for you and your spouse
for 1 bedroom or bachelor apartment for 2 people.

Thank you very much

Hi,

i could give you an estimate of Burnaby in BC.

For a couple it will be around 1000 to 1300 $ per month excluding utilities. This will include only hot water and heat.

Cheers
M

BC is huge, you know that - right?

Look at craigslist and compare (the cities) yourself!

Liveable income depends on many aspects. Where do you live, how do live, ... How are we supposed to know about your life style?

Renting in Van and the surburbs is expensive, the market is hot because of greedy people all over the place. You can be lucky and find a place for 1000 bucks including everything but most of the time you have to pay much more if you want to live in a nice place. There are lots of options, you have to do your homework.

In my mind (I live close to Van) you need at least 3000 bucks for two people. Living on minimum wage gets you nowhere!! And finding a job isn't as easy as it's been years ago.

Rent is close to 1300 for two and more, plus cell phone, plus internet, plus translink cost or costs for a car, groceries, health insurance for two (at this point $136 I believe, might be even $138), BC Hydro if not included in rent, the list goes on and on...

Good luck and please be more specific when asking questions!

Living in the north peace region of BC the minimum wage is 10.45 an hour and rent starts around 1500.00 for a small apartment . Most people who live here are in the oil industry. The mechanics who work on the trucks for the oil field can make 100.00 per hour but take tests to qualify. The guys that go to the oil field to work for weeks at a time with no time off while living at camp make great money. They can afford a 500,000.00 duplex and their wives don't work. You may want to check the weather trends before you decide where to live. Where I am it snows from October thru May. And with the exception of last year, the snow is four feet deep most of that time. There is even a allowance from the revenue service for those who live in this region. But if you live in Prince George, several hours away, the snow is not as bad. And if you live in Victoria, you have a beach. The province is large and the weather varies greatly in different areas.
