"Limited employment prospects in your country of residence"

I have been reading more and more on people having their study permit applications refused based on these grounds. Which greatly concerns me, because I have been accepted into a college in Toronto and I am in the process of applying for my study permit, but my country (Portugal) is facing major difficulties at the moment.

Would this really be grounds for my application to be refused even if I met every other requirement? How does one get around this?

Country's economic situation has nothing to do with your student visa approval/refusal decision.

Can Any one clear what does this reason mean? Is it means that a person don't have any job in his/her country of residence or have no past experience of job?

May be he will get better job after doing MS from Canada.

this reason means a person after completing his education from canada will not have much prospects of job in his country.....so the field of studies selected by student may have prospects in canada but not in his home country.

lol i think he does not have a clear understanding of visa process...he must have just read the "Limited employment prospects in your country of residence" and came to a conclusion without getting the whole picture about the visa process ...lol

I got accepted into an International Business Management graduate program. Truth of the matter is though, employment prospects in my country ARE limited in just about any field - but the point in continuing my studies abroad is exactly to increase my chances of employment here. Being refused on those grounds seemed preposterous to me.

well ur right but its mostly about selection of course...for countries like india and pakistan job prospects in our country r very low in almost every field....so its not about the country but about the course if u have selected totally irrelevant course then it seems like ur looking for employment in canada.....i will give u an example...lets say i am from india and i want to study french in canada .....doesnt it seem odd what will i do with french education in india(this is just an example and i know there may be job after french education)....

I have many reasons to want to pursue a graduate certificate in International Business in Canada (it was my second choice, but my first one was a post-sec diploma and I was advised to look into graduate programs instead), and I have no ill intentions, but you never know - if I may ask for your opinion, would you think that my past qualifications + choice of program would raise suspicion? I'm just so nervous about being refused for some unexpected reason when I'm doing my best to do it right.

in ur case it could be a potential mismatch, but i am not sure .....i havent seen many from ur country applying , dont know if it is easy and if this fact of mismatch could be over looked....is international business related to ur experience?

That's where it gets subjective, this particular program is extensive by definition and accepts people from various educational backgrounds. It is not necessarily related to my BA even though there was an international component to it (languages and cultures), and I have worked as a salesperson for two multinational companies, but never in a managerial position. Which is why I believe adding this certificate to my education would be a valuable asset for future employment.

The visa office responsible for applications from my country is in Paris. I have no idea how easy or hard it is to be approved there either... I've oddly never heard about any cases, from people in a situation like mine. Which is why I've turned to this forum for some help (and you have been helpful, thank you).

Perhaps adding a strong cover letter to my application might be my one shot of getting this right...

i agree there is no harm in attaching a cover letter that would tie all the documents together and explain ur passion and need to do this program. do ur country folks need a visitors visa to go to canada?
