Our former live in Filipena nanny has a new employer, and she just received a letter saying her work permit has been reviewed, and she must go to Seattle for an interview in two weeks.

Why on earth does she have to go there? I'm going to check her Visa, but I don't think she's even allowed to visit the U.S., is she? She has a temporary Canadian Visa with an expiry date of 2013. The letter specifically says the interview cannot be conducted in Canada.

How do they expect a nanny on minimum wage to have the money to take a flight to Seattle, stay overnight in a hotel, etc? I can't find anything to explain this, and can't call Immigration Canada until Monday. She's so upset and worried.

Why did she send her application for Work Permit renewal to Seattle? If she's already under the live in caregiver program, WP application for old/new employers are done at CPC-Vegreville.

Is that what happened? Her new employer submitted the work permit renewal, not me. I'll check and see where she sent it off to.

Yes, it sounds like her new employer sent it to Seattle instead of Vegreville. That's for sure not want she wanted and you are right, it's a costy trip just to have this interview. Anyways in case she has to go, here is a link from a hostel in Seattle. I stayed there as well when I went to the Canadian Consulate and it's so close like a 5minutes walk and cheap!!

Also from the airport, please take the LINK LIGHT RAIL to Downtown for 2.75 it's so easy and comfortable!

Good luck to you guys!!

Is there a way to resubmit to Vegreville instead? I'm pretty sure her paperwork doesn't allow her to go into the U.S. And she doesn't have the money for a flight and hostel and transportation anyway. (From Calgary the flights are $500)

I'm not sure about your questions sorry but a Senior might know the answers about her going to US. But again in case she has to go take the greyhound. It's a long trip but so much cheaper! All the best to you!
