Hi Guys,

Have any of you guys submitted letters of support from your family and friends?

If so, how long were the letters, what was said on it, and was it typed or hand-wrtten?

I just want to make sure my family and friends do it right lol

Thanks!

My husband and I submitted a letter from my father and his mother. Both were type-written and then signed. They both basically consisted of "Yes, we've met ____ and believe that this relationship is genuine" and gave some brief example of WHY they believed the relationship to be genuine. I personally went one step further. I suffer from mental illness and when my husband and I were dating, he made an appointment with my psychiatrist so that he could meet him and talk about my issues and how to help. I submitted a letter from my psychiatrist stating that he met my husband and was convinced that this relationship was genuine and good for me. My attorney was impressed, but I haven't gotten my visa just yet (they just requested my RPRF), so I'm not sure if the VO was impressed or not. ;)

Were the letters like half a page? A full page?

And that you are smart for adding the doctor's letter, that definitely was a thing to add!

Thanks for the info!

We included letters from my parents and our Pastor (Who is also our friend). My parents wrote stating that we would be staying with them and they would help us out as much as possible and that they have met and "approved" of my husband (we're in our 20's, I'm an only child). Our Pastor stated that he did marriage counselling with us and he married us and sees us each Sunday in Church and how he sees us as a unit etc etc (It was pretty religous thing lol)

They were all half a page

more than likely you will be fine. Even if they say no, you can appeal. Its the waiting that is so cruel.

We also included a half page type written letter, signed by both of the sponsors parents saying that they would provide accommodation for us indefinitely.

It certainly cannot hurt as it a) shows that you are accepted as a couple in the parents house and b) that you are being assisted during the transition to Canada and therefore less likely to be a burden on the state.

Our 2 major letters were from both sets of parents. We also included a few supporting letters, one from my uncle (because he met up with us a few times while we were living in the UK), a letter from my brother and several letters from friends. Nothing complicated, basically each letter was about a half page just saying that they knew we were in a genuine relationship, a few supporting details and that we were planning to move to Canada together. My parents also put in their letter that we would be living with them once we arrived in Canada for as long as we needed.

In Canada since 2010
We added one from my mother (who lives in sweden and came to our wedding here in canada) and two from friends here. We thought that we had so many pictures and such with my in-laws that they didn't need to write a letter.
We thought about the letter as just a compliment to the pictures and the rest of the "proof". Maybe we also needed to think like that because the in-laws is not the speediest and we would not been able to send it in when we wanted :/
