Letter from family, can it be email or pdf?

Hello, I am applying for Common Law and my mother-in-law have sent me her letter through email in a pdf. Would either be accepted by CIC?

It should be fine. It's better if it's a pdf signed and then scanned but they might accept just an email.

What if i need to submit a certified copy of this letter? I am not sure if i would need to show the original letter, and not just a scanned picture

How are you submitting this?

I'm not aware that they ever ask for a certified copy of a letter as long as original is in English or French. Printed or scanned copies generally seem to be fine (unless originals specifically required). They can ask if they want original.

As fas as I'm aware, i need to send my sponsorship application by mail.
I was going to scan and print all the letters, since i would be recieving them through email. The letter I mention on this post is in Portuguese, so I need to provide translation/affidavit as well as certified copy.
My country doesnt require anything in particular, so I'm just following the guide and checklist, but I've never done a certified copy and I've read that i need to present the original.. so would i need to have this original letter in Portuguese in hands to get a certified copy, or would a scanned copy (send from email) would suffice?

Unfortunately the answer to your question is what translators/notaries require, and that depends on country. So you need to go to a translator and ask what they need.

In some countries (hopefully most), they're just writing a confirmation that this is an accurate translation of the document (letter) attached. (It CAN be much more complicated when it's an official document)

So basically just ask the translator. They probably will not ask you to get the original, since it's just a letter.
