Hey Guys,

Thanks for the thread first of all, it really does contain a lot of information.
I have two questions, and any pointers will be greatly appreciated:
1- I'm a recent MBA grad and my grades have been posted on April 28th. I did apply online on June 10th, paid $255, but I am getting worried since the processing times keep increasing. My SP expires on Sept. 30th. I'm eligible for a 3yr PGWP, but as of now I am no longer "within 90 days" of my degree completion date. Given this, can I still go for the flagpoling option? Will "not applying within 90 days" be a problem?
2- My passport expires in Feb 2017, which means I'm not getting a 3yr PGWP right away, but I'll have to ask for an extension once I get a new passport (right?). Does anyone know what the cost of that is? And I guess I should apply for a TRV AFTER I extend the work permit to full 3 years?
Soleum,

1. When did you receive your Confirmation Letter or Transcript. Check the date written on it. Calculate the number of days since then to see if they still within 90 days. If not, going to FP will be a risk for you.
2. The PGWP that you will receive from CIC will indicate that you can extend it once your passport has been renewed. The cost is essentially the same processing fees. Yes, once you extend your PGWP you can then apply for your new TRV.
Good luck.

Cheers!

Hello Everyone,
Has anyone tried flagpoling with expired work permit but under implied status?
FN111,

In order to FP, you must be in valid status.

Cheers!

Hi jubear,

I spoke to the call center rep today and he said that I can apply for TRV from outside Canada as well incase I decide to go on vacation after getting PGWP and without TRV.

As you know, my PGWP is still in process (over 90 days now) and my study permit/TRV expires on Aug 31.

I am still in the US. Do you think I will be allowed into Canada on Aug 21? Will they question me seeing that my study permit/TRV expires by Aug 31? I may not even have the PGWP by then so I will have to enter as a student.

Thanks

Nevillek,

Yes, you will be allowed back into Canada as long as you return before or on the day your TRV expires. Also make sure that you have evidence that you applied for a PGWP. It could be an email from CIC or document from CIC since you applied that indicates your application number. I'm saying this because you might be asked why you are returning to Canada if you graduated. You reasoning and response should be about returning as a worker. This is a suggestion just in case. Its better to be prepared than not :)

But don't worry about it though. You will be fine.

Cheers!

Hi Everyone,

I am glad I registered for this forum because I could see how many are so anxious and nervous just like myself. After months of hard work, I recently got an offer from a marketing consultant company in Toronto. I was so glad that I got this position but, alas, they would not let me start until I have a valid SIN. My SIN expired on July 30th and I am currently on 'implied status'. Here is the detailed timeline of my PGWP application.

Applied: June 1st, 2015 (Paid full fees of $255)
Approval: Still waiting (67 days as of Aug 6)

I am so scared of the fact that I might have to start my job search process all over again if this position will be filled by another person before I get my PGWP. I have tentatively told them that it will take another 4-5 weeks to get my new permit. Is this timeline reasonable?

I am seriously hoping that CIC expedites their processing of all of our application double or triple-fold.

Best Regards
Raghav.

Hi All,

My work permit was approved today after 4 & a half months. Thanks Yukiyuki111 for sharing your experience and encouraging me to seek help through my MP. Jubear, thanks for keeping this forum constantly juiced up! Yukiyuki111, how do you want your coffee and Tim Bits? By dozen or by trailer-load?

Here's the break down of my application:

Applied: March 21st
Paid $100 and uploaded the receipt thru CSE: July 18th
Work permit Approved: August 5th

Raghav,

Welcome to the forum.

Given the current trend, I think 7 weeks would do it. I'm also of the view that come mid September, the processing days will reduce due to the fact that new and returning students will be back to school. By that I mean that most of their SP/extensions will have been processed by then.
So, fingers crossed; good luck.

Cheers!

Hi Jubear,

I really appreciate your response to my concern and your overall contribution to this forum. I will do my best to share my experience in return to future PGWP applicants. I will keep this forum updated on my application updates.

May CIC bless us all,
Raghav.

For anyone wondering, I was able to apply for and get a TRV from my home country, with the PGWP I already had through flagpoling (under "returning worker" status). The TRV application was infact processed within 2 working days.
