So I've left the country couple of times now, both by land and air, and I've been fine. I'm thinking of going home for the holidays and now I'm wondering if I've been lucky the past couple of times and should stop leaving, or I'm fine?

I have a visitor record that allows me to stay here for more than six months, as well as a multiple entry visitor visa.

And how has re-entry been? Very smooth and no hesitation on the border official's part? I'd be inclined to agree, you will be fine.

Ya, no trouble at all so far... I think it should be okay too, I just wish they have clearer guidelines instead of leaving it up to immigration officer at the border how long or how often we can leave the country for...

Thanks

It doesn't matter, he/she has a multiple entry visit visa.

I don't know what country you are from bugt I know I am from he USA and I have exited and entered a few times and had no issues. The last time, just last week, I even brought a puppy across with me and still had no issues. They always ask where I live I tell them I am here in Canada as an extended visitor and have applied for PR. I do have all paperwork with me in case I need it but never have been asked for it. Sounds to me like you would be fine just as I have been.

The problem here is that he is risking his application each time he leaves the country . He is applying inland which is very dangerous when leaving the country .Lets hope all goes well and he gets back in the country .

 now I'm worried....

If I have multiple entry visa, why would they deny entry though, right....? As long as I'm not bringing back meat products or give them any reason to doubt my intentions?

I think I'm safe but has anyone encountered any bad experience?

On the inland application CIC guide:

•Leaving Canada can automatically cancel temporary resident status as a visitor, student or worker.

The person being sponsored has no guarantee that he or she will be permitted to return or re‑enter Canada if he or she leaves before permanent residence is approved. This is especially true if a Temporary Resident Visa is required to enter Canada.

I suppose its open to interpretation but there is lot of discussion on the forum about the pros and cons of leaving. I suppose it comes down to that fact you will probably be ok, but there is always that chance you get a difficult officer whose having a bad day and you could potentially have your application cancelled. Its one of the downsides to applying inland and I guess you have to weigh up the risks and benefits of returning home. The fact you have been twice with no issues I suppose is a good sign.

a visa may allow entry into a country but the final decision is always left to the discretion of the immigration official. Basically, a visa is not a guarantee for entry and running into a nasty immigration officer can be problematic.

However, as long as you aren't trying to sneak goods over the border or whatever, you should be fine. Basically the odds greatly are in your favor. The only question is what your tolerance for risk is.
