Hi all,

I have searched the forum but found uncertain and conflicting answers, looking for someone with concrete experience!

I'm from the UK, visa-exempt country and will be landing in Canada in about 3 weeks.

I will only be around for 2 weeks, as i have to return home to finalise the sale of my property and to wind up work etc etc.

I have a forwarding Canadian address for my PR card, but clearly this will not arrive before i return to England.

If i need/wish to return to Canada before i'm in possession of my PR card, what exactly do i need to re-enter?

I've heard the following might/has/will help;

  • A return (not a one-way) ticket
  • A photocopy of my original COPR

Many thanks.

Thanks! That is the current method we will opt for but i've heard it can take in excess of 30 business days to get the card, plus postage times to the UK on top of that, i could be looking at 6 weeks or more.

I was hoping after this short trip/landing to return within the month.

I guess i may have to sit it out!

Hi

Also a UK ex-pat here; I exited and entered three times without PR card but with carbon copy COPR which you get on landing. All border personnel were fine and I just explained I was going back and forth until I sold my house.

Good luck.

Looks the above suggestion is from personal experience so I'd just take those docs with you and you should be fine!

Ok, thanks all for the help.

I will take copies of all relevant important documentary (and a return ticket!) if i need to return without a card and cross my fingers.

Thanks again.

Don't you have some one who can mail out your PR card in your absence to your UK address.

Yes, but i may be in a position to return to Canada having finalised things this end before the PR card is available as it can take 30 business days or more to arrive.

I am just looking into the possibility of re-entering without it.

If there is no option to re-enter, i will just wait for it to be forwarded to my current UK address and then travel again.

I like to be organised and not caught off-guard lol!

Oh Well you can also contact Canadian Embassy in UK, and ask them for the travel document.

Hi rrdiggy

Can you please let me know how it goes?

We planning to land in May and will be wanting to do a short weekend trip down to the states about two weeks later so definitely before the PR card arrives. My partner is from a visa exempt country so I would hope it wouldn't be an issue anyway but would be good to hear how it goes for you. As we'll be driving down, we won't have any tickets or anything but can take the COPR.

Of course that's assuming we ever get the darn visa ni the first place :(
