Hey guys,
So I do have an interest in learning French. I have been here for almost 7 years now and have found that French can help a lot in landing jobs, making new friends to expanding your own business. Would like to know if there is anyone who didn't have a french background before and started learning french after coming here. If so, I would like to know which school you attended and how it has been helping you.

Thank you :)

following. i am also wondering if i should learn french before getting there or after.

I'm looking at Alliance Française to start taking classes once my schedule is more settled (if I'm able to make time for it). CLIC is not offered in BC (where I've lived since 2008), and from what I've seen I wouldn't be eligible to take it online either. I'm planning to move to Montréal next summer.

I am from Toronto. Looking to take it preferably near North York or Mississauga.

Do you have a french background from before?

Not quite, I'm Portuguese-speaking which does help me in understanding a bit (but very little) and I grew up having books in French (because until a few years ago I had family in Québec), and also took French language classes at Alliance Française many years ago (when I was 18; I'm about to turn 28). I wouldn't make the assertion that I do have some French background but I also have a little to hold on to and make this learning a bit smoother.

You will have to go to ymca @ grosvenor street and register there. They will then tell you where you can take your classes. I was taking classes at yonge/eglinton area
