Hello friends,

as most of you do from time to time, I also look for any news that may affect my Canadian residency and future citizenship.
Some GREAT news friends: This is what I found recently here: http://citizenshipcounts.ca/citizenship-act-changes

"Applications are now processed in one step.

Your citizenship application is now reviewed and decided on by 1 citizenship officer. Previously, it was reviewed by 1 citizenship officer, 2 citizenship judges, and then 3 citizenship officers"

Please share the news with someone who might not know already.

That is great news, the question is
-will it apply to people who applied already and what is the effective date?
-does anyone know more about the old process?
I have had my test and waiting patiently for the oath, there is no logical explanation why some people get it much faster than others...same applies for the test.....

yes basharar, this is definitely welcome news. There's no telling what is really happening with the backlog. My theory is, with the fee increase, CIC has/will hire more contract-agents to clear the backlog as quickly and effectively as possible. This will in turn "free" up the other agents to focus on new applications. Thus, it may explain why the more recent applications are being processed in record time. Again, that is just my theory...but I have seen someone here with a 4 -month timeline from date application received to oath. I believe there are quite a few with a 6 - 8 month timeline start to finish -routine citizenship applications. Either way, it is good news atleast.

News Release Article from Citizenship and Immigration Canada

Record number of new citizens welcomed in 2014
More than 260,000 people became new Canadians; Backlog elimination on track

December 23, 2014 — Scarborough (Toronto), Ontario — Canada welcomed more than 260,000 new citizens this year, thanks to the government's improvements to the citizenship program as well as recent reforms to the Citizenship Act, Canada's Citizenship and Immigration Minister Chris Alexander announced today. This is more new Canadians than in any year in Canada's history and more than double the number from last year.

Through recent changes to the Citizenship Act, the government has made strides over the past year to improve the citizenship application process, and applicants are already seeing results.

A new citizenship decision-making process, which came into force August 1, has streamlined the process from three steps to one. Since implementing the new process, more than 115,000 people have become Canadian citizens – a 90 percent increase from the same time period last year.
Canada's citizenship application backlog has been reduced by 17 percent since June 2014, and is at its lowest level in almost three years.
The government is on track to eliminate the citizenship application backlog and reduce processing times to less than one year sometime in the next fiscal year.
To have applicant fees more closely reflect the costs associated with processing citizenship applications, citizenship processing fees will increase from $300 to $530 for applicants whose complete applications are received after Jan. 1, 2015. These applicants will benefit from the processing improvements outlined above, and this is in keeping with user-pay principles and a move toward full cost recovery in the citizenship program.

Applications for a grant and resumptions of citizenship to a minor are exempt from this change. The $100 Right of Citizenship fee for successful applicants remains the same. Other fees for services, such as for citizenship proofs, are not changing.

No, but I'm not the one screaming all in caps: "LASTEST: CITIZENSHIP NEWS".

Yes, it may be the most recent on the subject but it's hardly news.

Listen man, what is "hardly news" to you may be news to others. If you don't have anything positive to contribute, I suggest you "hold" your comments, at least on this thread.

Am just saying...

What others mean is that this "news" was originally aired by the CIC on August 2014. Additionally, the article is incomplete. Take for example places like edmonton, where we have one citizenship judge. How will two judges review the application?
Though aired in August 2014, the article has since been updated. Whatever the update was, it is "new(s)" in my opinion anyway! Again, if the "news" is not really news to you then disregard this thread. Regarding the judges question you asked, I suggest you contact CIC, they should be able to provide you an answer.

And would suggest that:
1) If you had taken the time to read this forum, you would have realized that this has been discussed at length;
2) Writing in caps is the equivalent of shouting, and generally considered to be rude; and
3) Asking someone to, in essence, shut up is even ruder.

An appropriate response to my initial comment would have been: "Gee, I didn't know that information had been available since last year. I got a little too excited, sorry if I made others think that there's been some breaking citizenship news."

The information that you are providing through this website are false. It was never reviewed by 2 citizenship judges and in the end 3 citizenship officers.
