LANDED..........
August 7th, 2015! Through Port Huron!
Hi guys, landing a month from today, and was wondering somethings about dogs.

Do we have to list them on items importing to Canada? I know its awful to think of as dogs as just property/an item but I don't want any issues with paperwork at the border.

I have vet records of their shots...and tags on their collars.

Is there anything else I need to know/do about importing dogs?

Thank ya! :D

You should have listed them as additional family members!

All joking aside... I think you can leave them off and the IO at the border will correct the B4 if you need.

We arrived with dogs last month.

We needed a Veterinary Health Certificate For Live Animals plus their vaccination cards.

We ticked the box on the customs form for food, fruit, animals etc and were asked at immigration what we had. We then collected our dogs then went through secondary customs where the Health Certificate and vaccination cards were checked and I paid the import charges ($40 for the first dog then $5 for the others).

This was arriving by air, by the way, and is the second year running I've brought dogs into Canada.

You'll have to sponsor them as dependents :P

I actually had same doubts, as my dog is with my parents in Poland, and I was wondering what if I want to bring her with me. My consideration was more if I should put her on list of goods to follow :D Animals are an option there, even if she is absolutely NOT a thing for me :)
But the officer said that there is no such need, and when I decide to bring her, I need vaccination etc, mentioned above

Canada is one of the easiest countries in the world to bring cats and dogs into.

That all depends on where the animals are coming from honestly...

Agreed. Not easy at all for some...

Oh, I didn't realise. I thought the requirements were the same wherever they came from - mainly proof of Rabies vaccination. Unlike other countries they don't need microchipping, worming, screw-worm proof etc.to enter Canada. What is different for other countries? I brought mine in from the UAE.

Hi Taddy. I'm so glad to read this. Bringing my dog to Canada next year and I can't believe that all I need is the certificate and the records. So been looking for someone who has actually brought them in. Is it really that easy? Also... I read that we can't bring in pet food unless from theUS? did you bring your own pet food

I brought my 2 cats and 2 dogs through customs via car in the summer. I only needed a current rabies certificate which they didn't even ask for.

Hi barkca, I brought my three dogs in from the United Arab Emirates. I had to show a veterinary health certificate issued by a government vet in Dubai. Up to date vaccinations were required for this. The certificate lists each dog's microchip number.

When we landed in Toronto we made sure they were included on the landing card and were sent to secondary customs (the equivalent of 'goods to declare' I think). I cant remember if they wanted to see the vaccs card but I had them anyway, and gave them those and the health cert.
I brought sealed bags of dog biscuits/kibble (single serve trial packs) and pouches of wet food. I told customs I had them and they were totally unconcerned.

I paid $45 and was on my way.

I brought a rescue dog and three cats in to Calgary for someone else last year and it was the same process.
