Hi All,

First of all thanks to all those who have replied to me over the last several months and to all those who have contributed to here to help one another. This is definitely a great forum that has helped me and others get educated ourselves.

I have finally received my Resident visa in my passport and COPR, and trying to plan my landing procedure. I live in TX, USA and was wondering what options I might have and some questions :

1. Land
a. can we do the soft landing and begin the PR card application process at the same time. Are there any time restrictions if we are crossing by road. If so how might I find them out so I can be there at the right time.
b. is it possible to apply for SIN right at the crossing or is it a separate office I'd have to visit.

2. Air
a. can we do the soft landing and begin the PR card application process at the same time. Are there any time restrictions if we are landing by AIR. If so how might I find them out so I can be there at the right time.
b. is it possible to apply for SIN right at the airport. Is it any different between Vancouver or Toronto. We are looking at these airports to land.

Also what is the process for applying for a bank account and credit card so we get credit history started as soon as we land. Are there banks that will give credit as soon as we land that is without a job offer yet. Are there any recommendations of how we can go about this, and what banks we can consider that is economical etc.,

1) a. the landing and PR card application is done by CBSA at the port of entry. No time restrictions for a cross-border landing.
b. Not at the land border. You need to go to a Service Canada office.

2) a. Same as 1) a.
b. Yes, in some airports there is a specific Service Canada outpost for exactly this, else 1) b. applies.

YYZ-Pearson certainly does in at least one terminal. I don't know about YVR-Vancouver.

You will need to check which banks have new-immigrant options available. Google is your friend.

Thanks Zardoz. On the time restriction i vaguely remember reading a forum post that you can apply for PR card only from Tuesday - Thursday 8 - 5. Although I can’t seem to find it anymore, so thought I’d ask if anyone was able to do it at a time apart from this. Thanks again.

That is ONLY applicable to Canadian residents using the "flagpole" procedure. It is not applicable to applicants who are actually crossing the border.
Your case prompted me to write the following post earlier today. https://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/threads/flagpole-restrictions-ontario-québec-official-statement.593283/
