I apologize if this topic seems too trivial to post as a separate thread...

My question is when someone enters Canada through an International Flight as a newly landed immigrant, and their port of Entry is either Toronto or Vancouver, but he/ she is going to Winnipeg or Saskatoon, does their immigration take place at the Port of Entry, where the international flight lands?

Do they also need to pick-up their luggage and cross the customs before they go to the domestic Airlines check-in counter for the city they are going to OR the luggage is automatically transferred to those flights?

Typically the first airport you arrive in in Canada is where you clear customs. And yes, the customs area will usually have its own luggage carousel so you would pick it up before transferring (and then dump it off again).

The airport will have this all figured out :) I'd just make sure you have a good window of time between your flights.

Yes definitely. If it's a low volume time with not many people arriving... immigration can be a breeze and the whole PR landing plus luggage could be done in less than 30 minutes.

But arrive at a high volume time and if they're short staffed (not uncommon at Pearson), it could be a 2-3 hour wait. In the end its mostly dumb luck.
