Our last day to land is Feb 17 on which our medicals expire. I'm planning to land in October without my wife, stay a couple of days to start our PR and return to the US. The problem is, we're expecting a baby due in mid-January. In the US, it takes around six weeks to get a passport to a newborn so I don't think we'll be able to complete all the documents and get his/her passport before Feb 17.

1. I read in other threads that CIC may give an extension up to 3 months to complete the documents for a newborn but I couldn't find an information in the CIC's website. Does anyone know where I can get some official info regarding this issue?

2. If my wife comes with me to Canada in October and stays there until our PR comes which takes around 45 days, can she apply for a visa to re-enter the US from Canada? Her US visa will expire by that time.

3. How long does it take to get our health insurance card after getting our PR?

Thank you
You can get the passport for the baby much sooner. Just show that you are permanent resident of Canada and tell them you are leaving such and such date. I went to the central passport agency in my city, applied in the morning, and picked up the passport in the afternoon. Did the same for my wife's renewal and newborn's first; they received theirs after a few days wait. As much as we spend on these immigration fees, and additional $60 to expedite the passport is nothing.

Hi Folks - I got the COPRs along with our passports today. 1 photo has been pasted on our COPR. Strange enough, for one of my kid, the 2nd photo was returned too. Is it normal? I dont think so becasue for my other kid, only 1 photo was returned stuck on the COPR. Any idea?

Why do you need company? It's not a long drive to the Canadian border from new jersey.

Hello,
I have an inquiry once I go to land in Canada for the first time after receiving my PR, regarding proof of funds do I have to bring the full amount in cash with me, it is illegal in Egypt to travel with more than 10,000 USD in cash. Can I bring over an updated bank statement from my bank in Egypt that shows my funds available in bank certificates or time deposits? I am willing to cash these certificates and deposits and transfer them to a Canadian Bank account once I open one when I come to Canada?
So can I bring over 7000 USD in cash and the remaining amount to cover my proof of funds can be supported by an updated bank statement?
Thanks

In my dictionary, a long drive is 10 plus hours. If you google, some people made it in 7 hours from the Canadian border to NYC.

I lost count how long it took me to the Costco in New Jersey from the Canadian border. But then I spent another some 4 hours on my way to NYC due to traffic. The bridges were so old and the tolls are manned unlike here in BC.

Hi All,

On Friday I should land in Toronto and I am pretty much confused with the POF thing. If I am carrying travellers' cheque with more than $10 000, should I declare the money? What is the most common way of POF?

Thanks

Hi All,
Is there any Indian bank who's debit card works in Toronto?
If it is an International debit card it would everywhere in Toronto.
Get on touch with your Indian bank and ask them for an International debit card.

I recently received my COPR with city of destination as Toronto. My application was approved after I accepted nomination under Ontario PNP program.

I currently live in Sydney, Aus and there is no direct flight to Toronto from here.

Is it acceptable if I travel to Toronto through Vancouver as a stopover? Would I have to do the landing formalities in Vancouver in this case? I am hoping my OINP shouldn't be a problem here.

I am unable to find any similar case so far. Any help would be really appreciated!

Would I have to do the landing formalities in Vancouver in this case? Your landing formalities will be completed in Vancouver.

I am hoping my OINP shouldn't be a problem here. There is no problem as long as you have a ticket for your onward journey to Toronto.

I am unable to find any similar case so far. Any help would be really appreciated!
Please see comments above.

All the best.
