Re: Landing in Canada - Can I still keep my job in Home country for a while?

Quietly proceed with your landing. Don't give them any information which they don't require.

Fulfill conditions for you PR (2 out of 5 years of residency obligation) and you can come to Canada at any time.

Thankyou Xpress Enterprise for the advice.

It is not advisable to show POF through normal bank statement. Best thing is to carry cash. Otherwise, you can bring demand draft or travelers cheque. Once your account is opened in Canada, you can transfer the rest of the amount. You can choose what currency you want to bring. Almost all banks in Canada allow you to open US Currency account.

Some even brought demand draft with them, showed it as POF at border, complete their landing and then cancel their demand draft for a nominal fees.

Your best bet is to open a Canadian bank account BEFORE you arrive in Canada. Many canadian banks have offices in UK. The allow one time transfer to your Canadian account. One bank is called ScotiaBank (they have a branch at 33 Finsbury Square, London, England EC2A 1BB)

RBC is relatively easy too. Any documents that need signature can be scanned and emailed. Once account is set up, transfer your funds from your country to RBC account.

I have seen a lot of HSBC presence in UK. HSBC Canada even allow you to transfer your credit history. This would be an easier option for you.

Please bear in mind that you will not be able to make transactions using these accounts until you arrive in Canada and the bank verifies your identity in person.

If you still want to bring your UK Bank Account, you must use get a Bank Balance Certificate generally address to IRCC, stating your name, account number, actual balance standing, how long you've been holding account, and if there is any encumbrances or not. Bank balance certificate is more important than actual bank statements.

Hello friends i will be landing in the month of july, i have a doubt regarding proof of fund as i inquired about travelers cheque in icici and other banks but they are not issuing that now a days instead if that they will give us a travellers card with required fund. Is it ok to carry that or please give some advise.

Hey guys,

quick question - I have been in Canada for the past 1.5 years on a study permit and have recently been granted my PR. My plan is to travel back home (India) and then complete my landing at the Pearson Airport? Is there any problem with the plan? Any important considerations?

No! There is no problem. Make sure you land before the expiry date of your landing visa date, with adequate proof of funds.

Thanks XpressEnterprise. Would my Canadian bank account statements be enough for POF?

I will be landing in July 2016 along with my family (wife and 2 kids). As proof of funds I'll be carrying demand draft to show at the AirPort. Additionally, I've also transferred some funds to my brother already settled in Canada who will transfer it back to me once I am in Canada. Do i also need to disclose these funds at the time of landing?

1) You need to show minimum of CA$22,603 (family of 4 members). Either you show it as cash or demand draft, it's up to you.

2) The funds transferred to your brother in Canada cannot be shown as your proof of funds because funds have to be in your possession (under your name).

3) If you are carrying anything around CA$10,000 or more (including any currency, you have to convert it yourself using updated exchange rates), you must declare it. This declaration limit is per person. So, for two persons, limit is CA$20,000 (primary applicant should declare). If you are carrying CA$9,999, you're not obliged to declare, though it's always best to declare. You can always bring more money, but all you need to do is declare. It's a money laundering law.

The typical bank statement might not work. But a balance certificate issued by the bank's branch where you hold the account will.
Numerous people including myself have taken this route successfully. No issues at all.

Bank statement will work fine. I had only 500 canadian dollars in cash and the rest in my bank statement for a family of 3 and it was acceptable, no question asked. Also a lot of people on this forum landed with their pof in bank statement and I am yet to see anyone who was refused landing because of that.

Just an idea, if he brings with him evidence of the transfer from his own account to his brother's account, and asks his brother to write him a cheque with the same amount - he can use that documentation to tell the story to the immigration officer. That's in case he's unable to show the amount required by CIC due to transferring most of the funds to his brother.
