I HAVE 1 QUESTION WILL THE FIXED DEPOSIT AND MY BANK STATEMENT FROM MY INDIAN BANK CAN BE USED AS PROOF OF FUNDS AT THE TIME OF LANDING I HAVE 3000$ AS FIXED AND 4000$ AS DEPOSIT IN MY BANK

No. Proof of funds is not there to prove how rich you are or how much assets you have. It is to prove that you have sufficient liquid cash to support your initial few months in Canada. As it stands, fixed deposits are not liquid cash.

Hi,
I am landing in Canada along with my wife on May 18th (2 weeks from now) and return back to U.S.A on May 22,2016 ie within just 4 days to complete my landing process and have few queries as beow. I would really appreciate your guidance!!

(1) I am living in USA since 7 years now. If I provide last 6 months of my "Bank of America" Bank statements (checking, savings and credit cards) along with Bank Verification letter, will it be sufficient as "Proof of Funds" at the time of Landing at POE? My POE is Vancouver,BC

(2)I am currently on H-1B work visa in U.S.A. I am planning to settle down in Canada 6-9 months from now. Even in this case I need to prepare a complete "Goods to Follow" list which includes TV,Car,Electronics and furniture along with other household items? Do I also need to include the approximate cost of EACH of these items?

(3) Is it OK if I don't carry ANY cash (USD or CAD) with me when I arrive in Canada to complete my Landing procedure? I have a Bank of America Travel Rewards credit card with zero foreign transaction fees hence I am not planning to carry any cash with me.

(4) For both me and my wife---Do I still need to carry birth certificates, degrees, marriage certificate etc. even if I am planning to stay in Canada for ONLY 4 days to complete my landing procedure?

(5) If I lose my job here in U.S.A, lets say 1 month from now and want to move to Canada permanently within 2 months, can I do that WITHOUT having the PR card? Per my research online, it takes 3-6 weeks to get PR card in hand.

I would HIGHLY appreciate your guidance and responses to my queries above!

Hi anshpatel84,

1) Yes. US bank statements are generally acceptable. My friend used Bank of America's statement with verification letter. However, you would need CA$ for paying taxis, hotels and restaurants, etc

2) Yes. Electronic items can be mentioned with Serial #'s & their estimated CAD Value. Phones can be mentioned with their IMEI #'s. In terms of furniture and clothes, you can batch them up, write quantity and write their collective value. E.g. if you have 20 shirts, write "Shirts" and write their quantity and values (collective value).

3) To be honest, bringing Cash is always the safest bet. Many people bring it on daily basis. Many people cross borders with their bank statements (stamped and signed, along with verification letter on bank's official letterpad). However, I would never risk my immigration and carrying cash is not a big deal. If you believe cash would be a hassle, you can request your bank to give you $100 bills and you can carry them easily in your jacket.

4) No. You don't have to carry those documents. However, it's always advisable to carry your birth certificates and marriage certificates with you.

5) Upon landing, you must give a Canadian Address to CBSA officer to initiate application of PR card. You can re-enter Canada on your personal/private vehicle (or by foot) by showing CoPR and passport. Without PR card, you will not be allowed to board train or plane (commercial carriers) ... unless you own a plane :P

Au Revior!

Hi guys,

Does anybody what is the time validity of the PRTD? If it can be issued for a time duration of around two months. Also, has anybody got their PR card couriered? I heard it is not illegal to do so. Thanks.

Best regards,

Thanks XpressEnterprise for answering my questions. However, I would appreciate if somebody with recent experience of sending their PR card through a courier would share their story. Also, if anybody has current information regarding the validity of the PRTD. I would be really grateful. Thanks.

A quick suggestion needed:

I will be in Toronto for a short landing. I will only have 2 working days when I am there.

Can anyone please tell me whether I will be able to open a bank account within this short time?? Will I need to provide any relative/friend's address for the bank card/pin numbers etc to be delivered?? I will be looking forward to SCOTIA bank (if anyone has any email address of SCOTIA, please provide, as I am not finding anything other than phone number in website).

Please help Experts!

Regards

1) Bank Accounts
Bank accounts are opened within few hours. However, you may have to go to Service Canada first to get your SIN (which can also be done in few hours. There's no need for appointment)

2) Address
You can certainly give address of your friend/relative. Just make sure you tell your relatives too.

3) You may need to contact ScotiaBank at +1-800-472-6842 / +1-416-701-7200 and talk to them directly.

Hi Guys,
I live in USA and I am planning to do landing soon.
1- In general, can I use any US-Canada border office for landing even if it is not having immigration office?
2- Any one use or know someone who use Maine-New Brunswick boarder for landing?
Thank you.

Dear all expert

Please help me in the following questions

01-I have mentioned the amount 20000 CAD (which is available in cash except others properties) in the form IMM5406E at the time of immigration process. so i can take 20000 at the time of 1st landing. But I could not mention my some investment in resident plot (approx cost: 15000 CAD) , apartment (65000 CAD) and Jewelry (20000 CAD) and CAR (8000 CAD) at the time of immigration process. exactlly I did not know how to inform them at the time of application.

AT the time of first landing , what to do ? becoz i will not sell my property specially apartment (65000 CAD) and residential plot (15000 CAD) and Gold (20000 CAD). So what to do at first landing ? even i want to take to take my wife jewelry at the first landing.

please suggest me what to do in these matter, please i am going in this July ............regards

Hello Qorax, Leon, Steaky & all senior members. You all have been doing a tremendous job in maintaining this thread & resolving queries of anxious new immigrants like me. Many thanks to all of you for your valuable inputs, hats off for the great work!!

Actually I am planing to land on 19th of May & was wondering if I should opt for an accommodation basis the listings online or look for a B&B option initially & then rent out a bachelor condo after visiting? If Yes, then any suggestions for the later though i realise it may be a bit too late :-\

During PR process and during landing, what you provide is proof of funds. Land, home, jewelry etc are not funds, they are assets. During PR application, if you remember, there were separate fields to declare assets and liabilities.
So, to answer your question, you won't be declaring your property or land when you land. You will only declare the liquid cash you are carrying. In addition, you will also provide details of your jewelry which you are either bringing now, or plan to bring in future. The info regarding all the goods(including jewelry) goes to formB4.

When you file your tax returns for 2016, you will get an opportunity to declare any foreign property over 100 thousand dollars that you may have. Any property which is worth less than this need not be declared even then.
