Has anyone who has landed used a UPS address for the receipt of their PR Card? By getting a UPS Mailbox, you get a real street address, not a PO Box number.

Hi Seniors,

I am planning to do my landing in the month of April, I am in search of a financial institute for my travelers cheque and cash needs. Could you please suggest a good one for this...

I have been to HDFC, however as i am not holding an account with this bank they denied to provide travelers cheque. I am thinking to get in contact with ICICI, thomas cook and SBI. Please let me know whether these 3 are worth finding out and which one would be the ideal option to go with.

Thank you in advance for your time....

Hi All
We plan to land in Canada by the end of March from Europe but it will be a temporary visit to fulfill the landing requirements. Can someone highlight the average PR Card processing time?. The official website says 105 days, is it really the case?. I have seen somewhere that we can request urgent processing, whats the possible timelines for urgent processing.

Would be glad to have the reply from senior members.

Regards
Ali

as per online timeline given, it is average but not for all, some are taking more and some are taking less time.
Mostly now a days this timeline is almost near actual time

You cannot come back to Canada from the US by public transportation: airplane, boat, train or bus without the PR Card. You can re-enter Canada from the US by private vehicle without it...you can use other documents:

Permanent residents of Canada
If you are a permanent resident of Canada you must show your permanent resident card when you re-enter Canada on a commercial vehicle, such as an airplane, boat, train or bus. If you return to Canada in a private vehicle, such as your car, there are other documents you can use. Such an example would be your record of landing/COPR documents as you suggest.

Some examples of private vehicles include, but are not limited to: a car, truck, motorcycle, or recreational vehicle that you own, borrow, or rent. It is a vehicle not available for public use.

If you can't find a way to travel by private vehicle, and you decide to travel back by air without the PR Card, you will need a Permanent Resident Travel Document (PRTD). Here is the link to CIC where you apply for that document: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/travel.asp

I have not experienced this myself, but have read about it in other forums here and researched it via Canadian Government websites.

Thanks Much kwyatt75, appreciate your response.

the "urgent processing" option is for pr card renewal only (cause that takes a much longer time)....however for newly landed immigrants/first pr card applicants you'd have to accept the timelines listed in the website.

Another excellent thread! For the people who recently landed in Toronto, how has your post-landing experience been?

Thanks to all for the reply.

A secondary question related to PR Card, as far as I know the Canada officials post it to an address in Canada but can we get it delivered here in Europe using a courier server for instance?. Is it legal or not allowed at all?

Regards
Ali

I have a query:

I got the IM-1 visa stamped and valid till Oct 2016. I am joining a new job in Sydney in Mar 2016, can I land in Canada in Sept 2016, complete the formalities and ask for the PR card to be sent to my relative's house in Toronto and travel back within a week?
Then my plans are to go back to Canada after 2 years. My relative will courier me the PR cards which I can use to go back to Canada.

Please someone let me know if the above is possible.

Yes you can do that. Just make sure your tickets are booked 1 month ahead of your Visa Expiry date as to avoid unexpected situation.

Thanks vedette for your quick response!
Do I need to inform the immigration officer that I have come to Canada temporarily just to get my landing formalities done and leave in a week? Since if I dont do that my visa will expire.

Yes, I will ensure my tickets are booked in advance.

Friends need some advice / suggestion.

I am planning to settle in vancouver in April 2016 from Karachi, Pakistan. I am looking for flight option. The problem is I don't have a US visa for transit and we were told in our orientation session for new immigrants - that if we land in toronto then our journey from Toronto to Vancouver would be local travel and thereby we will not be allowed to carry more than 1 bag or have to pay for extra baggage.

Has anyone experience this or would suggest best option. Thanks

No you don't need to inform the Immigration at the port of entry and he will not ask you as well. His primary concerns are your documents, precautionary statements in your PPR Email, POF and Healthy Luggage.

All the best.

Thanks vedette! Apologies for further bombarding with questions, what will happen if I do not revisit Canada in the next 2 years? Say, I visit only after 4 years (just a hypothetical scenario), and my PR card will expire in 1 year (at the end of 5 years as per what I read on the website), can I go for renewal while still living/working in Canada?

you might be reported by the officer at the point of entry, as being out for 4 years means you will not be able to fulfill your residency requirement for renewal by the time your card expires. If the officer reports you, there's a high chance of loosing your PR status.
